I was rather amused to see a 1980s Ford Escort in the picture of this Rightmove advert for a building plot for sale.

Makes a change from using an Audi or BMW I guess. :D

I've got quite a few cad templates of 'shite' for use in this sort of thing. I'll do some screen grabs later if I can be arsed.

Developers still base garage proportions around a 'family car' of the 1970's, so if you buy a barratt box you are at least sure to fit your Fiat 127 in the garage... :|

Recently been working on a super-luxury hotel & health spa complex and the design drawings (unusually) allowed for proper-sized parking bays - the plans had little CAD Lambo's and hummers in. Given that only oil arabs will be able to afford to go there they seemed appropriate.

It looks more like an Austin Ambassador than a Mk3/4 Escort. :)

My dads house is a new build 3 story townhouse barratt pile of shite. Each house came with enough drive space for one car, and a "garage" for the other. to go with 4 bedrooms. The garage is too narrow to park a Peugeot 206 in and be able to get out of the door unless you are super skinny, fold the passenger mirror in and don't mind reversing in so that the door perfectly aligns with the door into the house to enable you to open the door wide enough to clamber out. Oh and the roads are so narrow that a car parking on either side will block traffic to anything bigger than a vectra.

I reckon these old cars have survived on drawings partly because it would take effort to change them, and partly because they make the houses look massive in perspective!
