There’s still quite a few of these shape Econolines around but most are on their last legs. Here’s what they were like in 1975.

Quick, someone, post up a 1975 Transit brochure so we can compare them! Actually there is no comparison. The Econoline wins in every way, with the possible exception of fuel economy. Just look at that cab! No wonder British van drivers have a reputation for moaning, every syllable of every moan is justified when you see what the Colonials could have. Mind, if I found a 1975 Transit for restoration tomorrow, none of this means I would turn it down.

You can see where the Mk2 transit styling came from.....

The Ford Econoline. The last vehicle a hitch hiker ever breathes in.

I'd prefer an earlier forward control example myself. The sort that ALWAYS used to be involved in every episode of CHiPs.

Yes, and when Ironside got his new van, the one with hand controls, what was it? Yup, the Econoline before this. IIRC the influence on styling was either acknowledged by Ford, or picked up in the motoring press, when the 78-1/2 Tranny was launched.

To me, even the new American Ford vans still look pretty much the same as this, they don't seem to have changed all that much.
