shite_meister Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I've got a Mini Cooper, it had the standard Rover Cooper 12" Minilites on so I converted the brakes to be able to fit 10" wheels and no they're not minilites oh and as mine was a nineties Cooper it had wheelarch trims fitted from new so should I be put on trial for crimes against Minis? I would like to think that I've done mine up tastefully i.e kept the original colours but removed the Cooper pin-stripes and any badges. Minis are very shit yes but they can be a laugh in a back-to-basics way and set one up right and they go round corners like twat, christ I wouldn't have one as my only car and I'd hate to do a long journey in mine.
Father Ted Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 No, what I object to and find utterly cat wank, is taking a boggo mini and "cooperising" it. Its unoriginal. Every man and his daag has done it. For gods sake, how many original 1984 Sprite LE's are still around? (Well I fecked one up, so thats at least one less).
CreepingJesus Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Agree with your first post there, Ted. There's no real reason a 1275 Min can't be lightly adapted for today's needs, without making a tart's handbag of it. PC's really lost it, and this is the sort of thing they should be doing. (And the XR4i) More 'Tinas, SD1's and so on, pls. Stuff I like!A couple of mates at school had Minis (Clubman est, Clubman auto + a Sprite fwiw) - I loved driving them, but having lost flesh working on the vampiric little bastards, I wouldn't own one. The last one I got involved with, was a part-ex from a sweet old lady, at a Vauxhall dealers I worked at. The cub salesman took it against a shiny new Nova; the old dear must have been a bit more game than she looked, 'cos the subframes and floorpan were holding on with a wing and a prayer! The chargehand was a Mini fanatic, and even he deemed it unsavable. So we used it as a doorstop for the valeting bay - parked it across the doors at night, and whipped the steering wheel and king lead off...
Rusty Pelican Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I had a 64 MK1 with slidy windows , string for interior door handles , loads of rust and a metro engine fitted ,That was enough to put me off
M'coli Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 and a metro engine fitted Like most of them these days. Obviously, PC's publishers want to see them get the largest readership they can, so hence the common resto project - the XR4i won't appeal to the youngsters in the same way that a Cooper replica project will. I'd like to see something like a very early miniMetro resto, or Capri, or "How to un-rat-look a VW" or something, but they're never going to get featured.
