CJ's Odds'n'Ends 2 - Here Be Photos...

Been after this one for a while - actually I thought it had gone - until it turned up right next to me in Asda's car park. So shocked was I, that I nearly got run over by the muppet in the blue Tranny. The things I do for the love of shite cars...I dunno

DSC00753-2.jpg

E-plate round nose Passat; must be an early one, sure.

Left with little option but to pull into Stirling services, I braced myself for the inevitable. £4.06 for ten Lamberts was somewhat tempered by a gaggle of Trevors - including this lovely 400SE wedge.

DSC00752-2.jpg

Slightly bizarrely, there was a guy sitting in the back of this Bambi, having a nice cuppa. Still, a nice find during a photography mission up the Campsies.

Have a bonus Bluebird on me. Jus 'cuz. I know it's a '90 reg, but it is very 80's!

Not a double post...just a few more morsels from my travels.

Uber 80's bikeshite - the Kawasaki GT550

An old Dodge(y) camper which looks as if it hasn't been on holiday since the 80's...

And lastly, a teaser. What's the Stag's undercover buddy? Yep, it's an 80's car alright...

Lotus Elan?

I fear you could be right, just googled an image, the lights and spoiler fit the profile

Posted

'Tis indeed an M100 under the sheets. I should really get to know the owner, he's near me, and seems a bit of a shiteist! (There was an unbelievably crusty V6 Probe, Hiab'd away to make space for the Elan...)

I did spot the other stuff (except the Marina) near the Dodge; there's a couple of ageing caravans and the CI Tranny...but only as I was driving away. By then I was too taken with the idea of getting a pie and some Bru, and sneaking a peek into Brian Patterson's truckshite yard, at the other end of the village. Which turned up not much.

Posted

Yep, the campers and caravans are on the north side of the road, at the eastern end of Aberargie: the truck yard's pretty much at the other end of the village, on the southern side. I was looking for his legendary old double-drive Foden logging motors, but either they were out'n'about, or they've been pensioned off.

I actually nipped into Abernethy, and got the village store for pie'n'Bru. We were on another photography mission, so plenty of excuse to go autoshite hunting too!

Tower garage rings a bell. But I can't think of it associated with FSO; possibly before I knew the area. Tower Bakery, on the other hand... ...one of the better things about Perth. That and Inveralmond Brewery.

So where's the Rolls specialist then? Pretty sure I didn't spot that! To be fair, I only got as far as the primary school, when I remembered how to get up to the High St, so I missed out the east end of Abernethy. And it's been a good while since I drove right thro'. Not since I got laughed at by some kids in the primary school...the flashbacks...can't go back...too traumatic

Might have to have a look at the bargain cars place tho'.

There seems to be 80's shite jumping out everywhere, straight into our collective lenses. So here's another couple to keep it on-message.

Nearly crashed when I saw this honey...

DSC00772.jpg

...thankfully, I got the chance to run back and snap it, once I'd parked. The pic doesn't do justice to just how clean this car is.

Altho'; this made me smile. And strangely want it. Yep, I'd get it re-registered and leave it exactly so.

DSC00769.jpg

Further back in time (but unused since the 80's maybe, just to keep a tenuous link?), is this. I haven't a clue what it is. There don't appear to be any badges on it. There's also no 350 Chev or slot mags on it. Yet.

DSCF3177.jpg

Help?

Also this:

DSC00761.jpg

I'm amazed I hadn't noticed it before. The farm it's on, has some interesting shite round and about, and with a degree of luck, I'll make the time to take some proper photos.

If you are evr up Cupar way, keep your eyes peeled for a black one of these- it has a Merc 560 V8 in it....

^In that case, I'll remember and pack my carjacking kit. That baby's coming home with me...

Bet I hear it before I see it.

Bet you don't, its very quiet and stealthy. Been a few years since I've seen it though, but the guy who built it still has his garage, and is a genius. He also has a couple of Unimogs..

Posted

Wouldn't be the bloke down by Springfield, who built the FZR1000 engined Fiat 126 with the General Lee paintjob, would it? Sure he had something to do with Brian Morrison, hence the bike connection. Truly a warped genius...

Posted

No, but I remember that car- Bike paints in Cuparmuir I believe.. this guy is out the other end towards Pitscottie.

Posted

Yep, Bike Paints in Cuparmuir it was. But Pitscottie...must be the guy with the 4x4 place up the farm track?

Forgive my thrashing about for an answer; it's been over a decade since I worked at Laidlaws. I knew a few folk had some very interesting projects 'round the back', which were talked up. The rest of it was bollocks, like the fleet of fake Escort RST's and the orange Cossie Sapphire, which had a low-compression Transit Pinto up front...

Still miss the oddity of Cupar tho'. This end of Fife's far too sensible!

Posted

If you go over the wee bridge and on to the Pitscottie road, there is a farm a few hundred yards on the left- his garage is in there. Another good mate runs a garage in the trading estate- Saab specialist, lots of old 96's 99's and classic 900's in there and usually other solid gold shite lying around. Next to him is a small boy- well he looks about 12 with no teeth due to taking vast amounts of Coke.. the legal kind.. who shoehorns 3.2 V6's into frightened Nova's and Corsa's He used to bring them for MOT's and we just shook our heads and handed him a 5 page VT30. a couple of days later he'd come back and we couldn't get him on anything, even tough a V6 Corsa in a 1l shell with standard brakes was an accident waiting to happen. He gradually got better and better and now turns out some Kwality stuff- if thats your bag.

Posted

^That's what I'm talking about! Still can't place the garage, but it definetely wouldn't happen down this way. Shoehorning a V6 into a shopping trolley, that is.

The guy not a million centimetres from that garage you had all the MOT grief with spends his days shoehorning VR6's into Mk 1 Golfs and stuff. It goes on behind closed doors everywhere..

Here we are again, then. Time to gracefully depart the 80's with one last lovely classic -

DSC00782.jpg

I spent a good 5 minutes staring at this, unable to decide if it actually is an Injection Special. There's something doesn't quite ring true about it.

Anyhoo, let's lurch forward into the 90's, with this lovely Corolla (complete with '16 valve efi' sticker)-

DSC00799.jpg

Mismatched wheels FTW! The front one looks suspiciously Vauxhall-y to me. Still, ain't seen many 4-dr ones lately, so it was nice that this one posed at the lights for me. Maybe it felt a kinship with the million K's truckshite I was in?

From the lofty higher branches of the Toyota tree, this verrr clean Lexus -

DSC00775.jpg

I noticed it had gold badges on it - every single one. Is there some significance to this? I feel it's the kind of thing I ought to know. Sad, eh? At the time I was much too distracted by finding this Lexus, a Robin, and a VelSatis in close proximity to think about it.

Kirkcaldy B+Q u r winnar. Much better than the nearby Halfords stick-on DTM tailpipe emporium.

You get the mere suggestion of a sunny weekend, and all the campershite comes out to play. Missed an E-reg Nissan Urvan camper (twice that day), but bagged this beauty -

DSC00794.jpg

All the campershite seemed to be heading for Kinghorn, and I meant to go and have a prowl about, with the proper camera. Time got the better of me, sadly: 'twould have been like shooting fish in a barrel.

Would that Corolla be in Dundee? I had my first visit to the scrappies there today,'twas ace. Bagged 2 door strips for the A4,as new, for a fever

Posted

Sure was. It was going into the Morrison's at the foot of the Kellas Rd. Well spotted!

What Dundonian scrappies did you peruse? I might have to have a tour of them myself, given that Watson's has gone wrong.

EDIT: Or to phrase it another way, U Pull It can fuck right off.

Posted

I thought gold badges were standard on the Lexus.

I was going to ask about the Dundee scrappie too, for similar reasons.

Posted

What's U Pull It done? They've always been great with me?

The Dundee scrappies, there are 2, are in Beryl St, Baldovie, next to the dump- Here:

Scrappies in Glenrothes too, half a mile from my hoose! They just sold a mint low mileage Skoda Favorit Silverline too... I was too late.

Ta for that, Tiff. I thought the place in Cable Rd was just a scrap metal fragging place. Not that I've ever paid much attention, even tho' I nip up to an office near Police HQ once in a while, and I've been around all the industrial estates at least once for work!

Having said that, a trip up to Dundee would always be an opportunity for a shite-spotting cruise... 8)

I wasn't terribly keen on Watson's by the end - pattern part prices were getting competitive. Throw in U Pull It's bizarre idea of organisation, and that's the top and bottom of my not bothering to go there. Call me a Luddite, but I like to go to, or phone (modern, eh? ) a scrappy, get a fix on the motor/part I need, and go get it. All this online booking, time slots, deposits...completely unnecessary.

Mc Donald metals is the scrap place- if you turn down to the left before that there is a yard in there- you have to ask at the garage to get in though. In U Pull It, you pay a quid and walk in, with a supplied Hi Viz. Pick what you like and then pay for it. I like it a lot! Pretty cheap too. Lots of complete shite usually for sale as well, there's an early Lotus Excel in there just now. I think its about £700.

Maybe go and have a gander then; it's been a good few years. There's a fair few fiddly bits for both cars I'm needing. The kind of stuff I wouldn't even dream of asking a dealer 'how much?'. Not unless I needed some rage fuel. Megane driver's door leccy window winder, for instance! Wonder if they'll still allow me to fill my pockets with said fiddly bits for a nominal sum?

Posted

Last time I phoned UPI they were quoting £10 for a diesel pump on their website but it was something like £70 when I asked.

Here is the Mercedes V8 Supra that Tiff mentioned a few days ago (black, next to the green truck), I think it's broken now.

I went to get bits for my Rover 45. front wiper Motor, drivers 'leccy window motor + reg ,2 tyres for the Trabant, a couple of relays, a clock and a wiper stalk. £35 the lot.

Thats the Supra! You can see the 2 Unimogs in the pic . The owner of the garage is a first class welder and mechanic too.

I wonder if he's still got the Charger and Barracuda that he's been dragging around for the last couple of decades.
