Some advice please, re SORN and stuff...

Ok, the Spitfire needs to go for some work - needs a service, plus has some suspension issues. It is currently SORNed with no MOT and sitting in a friend's garage. It runs, and is perfectly driveable. I seem to recall (from a VERY long time ago) that you can drive a car on the road with no MOT if it is booked in for the test. Is this still the case?

Or, do I have to trailer/tow it to have the work done? Ideally I would prefer to hang on for the MOT 'til I am ready to drive it, can't quite get my head round the order of MOTing/taxing/driving the blinking thing. Apologies if I am a bit thick. Would appreciate some advice!

must be insured and taken on a direct route to MOT test centre (and booked in before hand)

insure it and drive it - as long as the MoT is booked, plod can only let you drive to it ...

Local place to me does free MOT's if it fails. Great way to check how close the car is to passing :D

So, can I insure it with no tax or MOT? Has been in said garage a while and the insurance has expired. Am fairly confident that it will pass the MOT, as it's only done a few hundred miles since the last one, so am happy to insure it (less than £100, nice!). Like I say, can't think of the best order of doing this.

Yes you can. Tax is the only one that relys on having Insurance and MOT.

Thank you. Got it now. Insure it, book in the MOT, drive it, give Leicestershire Constabulary shit when pulled over. Spot on.

Hey Marcus - I think I've just realised who you are. Marcus Mason? Married to Helen? Now living in St Ives?
