My Wartburg's gone... But Look What's Coming....

Well, the time has come and I've parted company with my Wartburg. Bit of a sad day at "Camp Hutchings" but I've had it for a few years and the guy to whom I've sold it has promised to give me first refusal if and when he sells it again!

So, what's next? I've been given an option on a Skoda Octavia.... Before you all go off the deep end and point out that this is hardly an Autoshite purchase, I'm NOT talking about the current Skoda Octavia, but the much earlier one, which was produced in the 1960s. The design first saw the light of day in the 1950s as the Skoda 440 Spartak, and later this morphed into the Octavia.

The details are: Right hand drive car, built for the British market, still on original registration number and the original log book is still in play. 12 volt POSITIVE earth (I'll have to change THAT!), no syncro on 1st OR 2nd gear (there are only 4!) 1221cc overhead valve engine, red and white indicators (as the car's so old the amber indicator rules don't apply) and it has a starting handle! Proper chassis built frame. Can't wait! Promise to keep the autoshite community up to abreast of developments, but in the meantime here's a picture of what they look like...

This is a picture of a Spartak 440 from the 1950s; the Octavia I'm getting is the same shape but with a different radiator grille shape. Mine's in grey, with black upholstery and while piping, all in excellent condition!

Excellent work!

I've always had a soft spot for these front-engined Skodas

Here's one with the later front end

I too look forward to seeing pictures!

No need to bother changing earth from pos to neg unless you want to fit some modern bongin' stereo equipment.

I can get a LHD Kombi one of those for not a huge amount of money. Needs the diff replacing but otherwise its sound. It's 1000 miles away though.

Great! I've just got a '65 Octavia (one of the last one's they stopped building them in '64) I've been searching the internet thinking that mine was alone in the country. Did you get yours yet? are you posting pics? Mine isn't a "Super" it's just the 1100cc version but it's tidy for it's year. Got in running yesterday and it was as sweet as a little eastern european nut. Starters knacked though so thats off being reconed at the mo. I don't think it would take too much effort to get it through MOT all brakes are good body and chassis is sound (apart from drivers side sill) I'll stick some pics on here when I get round to it.

Very nice - watch out for corners...

It's ok michiel, Skoda had capitulated by then and their cars had differentials fitted.

For some reason I always liked driving these Octavias, they reminded me of the homliness of a Morris Minor :)

nice buying andrew
