Total ebay WIN.... no mestsing, no shill bidders, seller only 20 miles away, and better still someone else bought it!

Thought i'd stand up to the plate and actually talk about the main subject, autoshite.

1985 volvo 240 GLS, in gold, with beige trim, 2.3 auto, all the extras (FM stereo "volvosound" radio cassete, heated seats) FredTransit bought it last week (although, I confess, it was on my watch list) and I'm due to take care of it for the winter. Ideal? far from it. I drove it back from the purchace, and that's far enough for me. I just can't do it. It's so BLAND I almost fell asleep a couple of times (and thats not good on the A68, believe me..). There is no discernable difference between tickover and full throttle, for starters. That just feels wierd, even in a landrover the noise changes.. it just sort of wafts along at it's own pace, unhurried by anything, and oblivious to your right foot. Until you realize you are doing 65 into a sharp bend, and tap the brake... then you wake up, and so does the car. 2 tonnes tries to do a handstand, then you let off the brake and pile on a lot of lock... it feels like you lean further than you ever did on an RD250, you think you are about to die....but it goes round. Look at the speedo, still doing 45, so carry on then.

I don't think I can actually drive this thing on a regular basis.. someone is bringing me a CVH sierrra saphhire on tuesday though, so all should be well.

CORRECT.

First time I drove my 240 I found myself barrelling along far too fast... my experiences are near-identical. I do like them though, alot. But not as much as 'Er Indoors hates them, negating the chance of another joining the fold.

5 minutes in a 740 was more than enough for me...thought i was gonna be sick, and i was driving!

Truly, they don't make 'em like that anymore. Nor will they ever. When your 04 Megane's handbrake expires and the dealer wants £400 to rejig some random ecu or something after fitting, but it doesn't matter becaue the motor is NLS, and the car is now scrap because it'll never pass an MOT without a handbrake, think of this Volvo.

I had a 760 GLE with IRS for a good few months. That used to sneakily break speed limits on me, so it must be a RWD Volvo thing. T5 didn't do it.

Nice car in its own way, the 7 series. Not brilliant at anything, but not as shite as you'd expect at things like handling once you adjust your driving style to suit. Comfy on the motorway.

The brown W plate 240DL, on the other hand, I hated. Was a proper poverty spec one, but had overdrive. I didn't get on with that, but probably would now I'm older and less likely to try taking every corner sideways.

Amazons also do this.

I'd have a 240 GLE Estate, but the dashboard is so wilfully vile I don't think I could live with it.

Looks great - I'd happily drive it (although wouldn't be so happy about the fuel costs!)

Is that Freds white Mk3 Escort as well??
