Lankytim Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 As some may know, I have a 1.6 petrol Maestro in which the previous owner has fitted a 2 litre diesel engine, at the same time he cut the springs down to lower the car. I am in the process of getting the ride height back to standard and have already replaced the rear springs. The rear is now up in the air while the front scrapes up the tarmac! Its been difficult tracking down diesel front springs/struts but I have the opportunity to buy the front struts from a petrol 2 litre Montego estate automatic tomorrow. I would imagine that a 2 litre petrol automatic will weigh approximately the same as a 2 litre diesel so they should be ok... unless anyone knows different! The big question is will 2 litre petrol springs/struts take the weight of a diesel engine or will only genuine diesel items do? Many thanks!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 They'll be absolutely fine! I bet the weight diff between the pez and the derv engines in those is bugger all, seeing as they are fundamentally the same engine. If you had been ovvered some 1.3 A-series maestro springs it might be different, but 2.0 pez ones will do the biz. Get on it!! Do you want me to do your Fiesta wheelbearing? PM me if so. L8RZ
Lankytim Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Ta Mr B, ill get spannering tomrrow! I have decided to get the local garage to MOT the fezza, which will include the bearing. I was going to give it a shot myself but I'm not totally confident in my ability do do the job without something snapping off or somehow rendering the car completely immovable/scrap. The garage has oxy aceteline for naughty bolts e.t.c. That said this is the garage that shredded a tyre when fitting it for me today so maybe it isnt such a bright idea to let them loose on it after all.
Lankytim Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 Spent this afternoon unslamming the Maestro. The Montego struts look to have had new shocks and top bushes in the not too distant past. They went in a treat and only took 10 mins a side! The result is now a nice high ride height, if anything its slightly higher than standard but looks a million % better than it did before.BTW, the cut springs in the old struts look to have done the tops of the stuts no favours, the rubber gaters are all shredded and theres random bits of foam and rubber everywhere. Of course they could have been like that to start with, but ill just blame the OMG SLAMMAGE cut springs brigade UN-SLAMMAGE FTW PERKINS KICKI'N IN Y0!!!11!!!11
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Sterling work LT, I'll have to drop by and inspect this road weapon. Is it taxed and tested and what have you? Hey are you still driving round in your Audi? If I need some A-frame help can I call you? I have nowt capable of A-framing ATM!
Angrydicky Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Well done Tim, nice to hear about an old car being returned to standard for once Oh and, Maestro porn PLZ. Bollox, towbar on the Landcrab?
Lankytim Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 Ta Mr B. Its tested but not taxed, hence the furthest its been driven is to the end of the drive and back. Even then the V5c and MOT both say its petrol propelled. I'd like to change these details before it gets insured and hits the road proper. Imagine the aggro with insurance companies? "computer says its petrol, not diesel, U IS RONG" e.t.c. Nightmare. The Audi is still holding together reasonably well considering its age and mileage so whenever you need something A framing let me know! Dicky, Ill sort some pics out ASAP, I haven't taken any of it at all yet. Are apple Macs easy to upload pics onto?
M'coli Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Are apple Macs easy to upload pics onto?Should be a piece of piss. Get them posted!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I have managed to use an apple mac to get shite pics onto the interweb, TBH it seemed to be an identical procedure to a windows computer.
Lankytim Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 TBH I just haven't tried yet! Ill do some tomorrow, before it gets dark....
