Largactil Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 What, with this shiny new forum, I figured it was probably time to actually register and occasionally participate on this delightful website... Alas, my current shite is marginal and very scenester - An MX5...(I know - But it's quite amusing to punt along!) However I have quite a past history of shite car ownership, having learnt to drive in a 1986 Vauxhall Belmont 1.6 GL... First car was a Fiat 127 1300 GT in orange (Complete with "5 Speed" sticker on the boot, just in case you weren't sure how many forward gears it had...) Along the line, a Mk1 Astra (1300 L), Visa Club, Dyane, Marina, Datsun 120A have all put in an appearance, either owned by me or my folks at the time. I think I'm stuck in the '80's - A Renault 30 would make my head turn quicker than a Ferrari Enzo...(!) Is there any hope?!
steve austin Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 There is hope for you because most of my first cars are on your previous ownership list lol! Keep buying the tat, I know I will!!!!!
Cavcraft Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Welcome along, any pictures of said mentioned previous fleet?
Alexg Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Welcome, love the cack bodykit in your avatar. But what's the car? - it's difficult to see on my I-phone, that's my excuse anyway. (guess mk1astra) Edit, that was a stupid guess- 323?
ProgRocker Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Welcome, love the cack bodykit in your avatar. But what's the car? - it's difficult to see on my I-phone, that's my excuse anyway. (guess mk1astra) Edit, that was a stupid guess- 323? Reno 11? Welcome, Largactil.
Albert Ross Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Looks like a Poobird to me. Bonnet lines seem familiar.
Largactil Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Cheers folks! I'll need to have a hunt, and try find some pictures of the aforementioned steeds...Disappointingly, I was loathe to waste film on pictures of early cars, in the pre-digital camera days... Here's my mate's 127 - My car was identical - Other than being orange, and having the X1/9 wheels hand painted black with a brush... The avatar car is a bit oddball - Didn't get it either on first glance...
Louise2cv Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Re: Avatar I thought an Audi or VW. BUT in my defence... I am a girl. edit: something MK2 Golf about the wings, something 80's Audi 100 (C2?) about the bumper and screen area...
Baz Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Alas, my current shite is marginal and very scenester - An MX5...(I know - But it's quite amusing to punt along!) Good choice....An MX-5 needs no apology! Welcome....
Mr Lobster Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Looks like a Golf to me although I suspect it isn't. Welcome along though!
Baz Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Is it not a Mk1 Astra? Edit: Actually....The wipers park the wrong way for an Astra....Opel Kadett 5-Door.
Marshall Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Welcome. Regards avatar - I say Bluebird n all!
Station Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Think it's a Bluebird (or more obscure Nissan car) with Optilux headlight conversion (do a search).
Jon Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I think Nissan Sunny, circa 1983-1987ish. Where's Ratdat? Oh and hello!
Pete-M Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Eyup! MX-5s rocketh mightily. They're like the car MGB owners think they have, except the MX5 handles. 127 GT. They're good fun. I can't remember if the one I had was a Sport or a GT. T reg, I think. Black. Silly gearknob and orange seats. Ace. Until a muppet I know took the radio out and removed about 3/4 of the dash wiring loom in the process. Enjoy Autoshite responsibly. Now go find some shite in the ebay thread and amuse us with tales of rust'n'breakdowns.
CreepingJesus Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Welcome aboard! A guy I knew in my youth had a white 127 Sport. He spent a whole £27 on a K+N kit for it, and swore it was faster...
Largactil Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 The 127 was indeed a hoot - Until the head gasket failed on a Friday afternoon, in the midst of rush hour Dundee...I nursed (i.e. sat in third with my foot on the floor at 40mph) it to my folks 50 miles away, then had something of a Basil Fawlty moment. It sat in the drive for a while, then sold to some local hooligan, who intended fitting a 1300cc Uno Turbo engine to it... I do remember the 127 coming with quite a collection of spares when I bought it - However, two weeks into ownership, I'd called my folks from uni, to hear my old man proudly proclaim that he'd got a tenner from the scrap man for all the old shite I'd left in his garage. Old shite being x1 short engine, x2 cylinder heads, a 5 speed gearbox, x3 weber carbs and various starter motors /bits of trim etc. No room at the moment for eBay tat - I've just flogged my lovely Rover 200 last week, and need garage space to fit my homebrewed supercharger kit to the MX5. Expect me to be on the lookout for a new engine soon after fitting is complete... Oh, and the car in the avatar is indeed a Mk1 Astra with a horrendous bodykit. (It might actually be a LHD Kadett of the same era?)
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I thought it was a B2 Audi 80. Welcome!
