Forum Deadwood?

I was just having a little perusal of the membership list. It's Ok at first, regulars and people who post, but by the time you get to only page FIVE it starts to go on a downward spiral. On page 7 there are 32 obviously spammers (never posted, have dodgy website links in their profiles). Out of 50 per page, that's not good! I only got as far as page 10 (I don't have that much time on my hands) there were far more spammers than genuine posting members. Given the forum just had an upgrade, would now be the time to have a clear out too? The spammers are easy to spot, see above. Is this sort of thing contributing to the problems on the last version of the forum? Bear in mind, this is the second serious outage this year, I know this cos the one before last was when I opened the emergency forum.

Go for it, I deleted on my Forum:

all users that have never posted within 1 month of joining...

all users that have not posted in two years (keeping old posts of course)

all users that are spammers (using your obvious URL to crap)

Having said all that I note 81 pages or 4134 users who have never posted !!!! sounds like a MUST to get rid of these loozers, I bet they all drive modern Cars with things like air bags and anti lock brakes!!!!

Just like to point out I can't actually delete anything on this forum, but would be happy to help out I was wanted.

Ditto.... I am sorta handy around phpbb3 .... but then again I need to get out more :lol:

I have lots of experience with phpBB2, but not 3. I can always learn though, and how hard can deleting spammers be?

They're using valuable data space..... A bit like the stack of wheels you got "just in case" but never used, and they're still there 2 years later, with the Wife threatening to call the council to have them removed at your cost. So you put them round the back of a different shed, only to have them spotted a week later.

So yeah... deadwood.

I was "a lurker" for ages, and if they aren't posting are they really causing a problem?

2 or 3 years though??

Fair enough, I don't really know how these things work. Also, I suppose I lurked as a guest rather than as a signed up member.

It's disappeared into the ether now, get over it.

I think we should raise Fred up as some kind of dictatorial Kim Jong Il figure on the forum, pressing a few of us into making shabby Transit Mk2 knock-offs and the rest into an army with one aim - to vanquish TV cleaning gurus.

Wow, gues what lovely new forum feature I got to use for the first time? :D

Actually with hindsight (and oh look, I have quoted you so you can't delete this little comment) why don't you just get out of my face? I have done nothing at all to you, so I would just like to know WTF you have got against me?

To quote you again

get over it.

I may appear to be a complete tool, but how are you looking at these lists anyway?

I would be interested to try and track down my brother's "name" as I registered him a while back, wrote his "name" down, with password etc, he's just admitted his lost the bit of paper, the useless twat.

Cool, cheers fred.

Has anyone else noticed that if you click on a link, AS disappears in favour of the "new" page be it Ebay or Youtube, rather than the "new" page opening a new tab, as it used to on beige AS?

Or is it my computer being an arse?

It's not just my PC then?

It's a phpBB3 thing. If you click on the track wheel or ball instead, the link will open in another window. :D

I was just being affectionate.

Anyway, try posting a bit less love - it seems like you've posted more than all of us combined since you and the forum came back, mostly about how you'd run the forum.

+1.

It's almost as tiring as the I love/hate Retro-Rides nonsense.

Sorry for repeating a tired argument, I'll just have to resist clicking that pesky "Display this post" link.

Enough of this shit please

Won't be any more of it from me mate, seen as I didn't start it in the first place. Ironic somebody had decided to kick off in this thread isn't it?
