Renault Megane

1.6 Dynamique

5 door

MOT: March 11

TAX: Jan 11

Price £2395

I am selling this on behalf of my father-in-law.

It has done around 70k and is a good reliable car.

I can't really say much else - it has electric everything and is quite good to drive.

There is an issue with the rear offside electric window - it is jammed, but moved a little - so may have come off its runners. Stays shut though.

I'll let the pics do the talking.

I would almost say it looks like a fake.

They are actually really good, and being a Renault they're filthy cheap for what you get. My colleague and sometime-lift-to-work has the 225 model which is batshit insane, but even my mum's first-off-the-line (she actually ordered the previous model through work, but it turned up as the new one) was really quick, very quiet, very comfy. It was the 1.9dCI, summat like a 105bhp or 120bhp model.

I once dropped her down to the airport in it, pootling back at not many revs in 6th I realised I was doing 115mph without that usual tense-buttocks feeling I get at that speed.

That looks like a really clean Megane.

I love Renaults and I forgive many of their faults (or is it their many faults) - however if this one has been reliable, I wish I'd bought it when it was new.

I bought one of these new on an 03 plate - after driving the previous model - it was the most hateful car I've ever owned. I have to say it was ultra safe - mainly because it was in a state of perpetual broken-ness and spent most of the 5 months I put up with it back with Renault. Plus the economy from the "improved" 1.6 16v engine was dire, the performance was dire, the power steering was dire, the rear legroom was a joke, the boot space was a joke and the engine screaming its balls off at 70 was too much. As a result of the fact it didn't work Renault had it back and I had a proper Scenic.

Although I've got a new Megane coupe now, I spend most of my driving several of the last of the old shape "real" Meganes which don't break. I do however think that a really clean one like this might become collectable years down the line, as it was such a bold design - plus the chances of most of them not falling apart will be very slim. Along with the 2001 model Laguna, it is this type Megane which caused Renault to seriously evaluate their reputation for reliability and quality of finish. . . well, in France they did anyway

. . . however, in the case of my new Megane, they're obviously still only at the "thinking about it" stage.

Oh yes, it has quite a bit of history too.
