I too voted Solara because it was shite from the moment it rolled off the production line.

The Solara has Avenger ancestry for even more points.

*anorak mode* I believe that the Solara was actually descended from the Simca 1100 */anorak mode* A descent that far in just a few short years automatically makes it the default choice :)

I know, but Pog asked for pub bore style half truths.

Oh well in that case, I voted for the Solara because it is faster than a Ferrari F40 to 100mph and you got a free kitten with each one sold.

Which has the least number of survivors left on the road?

I voted for the Solara. Never, ever, it seems has a marque been so utterly raped and pillaged as this. I shall illustrate my point with some early Talbot pornography; but more later. Imagine Rolex bringing out a Christmas cracker special edition with a plastic strap and Chinese innards.

To buy a Talbot, in the thoroughbred era, was to buy something like this:

Graber body. I favour the Saoutchik for all its pompous, silly wonderfulness but this is the ultimate.

After acquisition the Sunbeam 90 was a great car, the M5 of its day.

But the Solara? What other Icarus like fall from graces match this? From glorious straight sixes and eights to an asthmatic Simca coupled to a sludge pumper. Nothing quite defines the essence of a shite car as well as this. A once glorious name cheapened to horrible suburban affordability. The car equivalent of those Dambusters and Flying Scotsman branded clock plates and sub-standard tinware found in the back of the Daily Mail. The Solara pretends to be something it isn't - it pisses on the graves of the finest engineers and craftsmen. It is an insult to the very annals of European history. A great dynasty was trodden into muddy ground by nylon clad accountants - and for what end?

The Stanza is a worthy hatchback, made by a producer known for its reliable, but dull worthy hatchbacks.

I'm not actually sure. I dont remember ever seeing any Solaras ever, maybe that is a sign I should choose it? There is that Stanza rotting away in a 'drive' near me, perhaps the fact someone has chosen to keep one for thirteen years after they decided to give up the high life means they arent actually that bad? Even for early 80s Japanese stuff, the survival rate is really low. But I think the Solara has low numbers because its A* grade shite and was hated by so many, and loved by so few. Also someone really needs to find that one in London with the odd coloured door, if its still there.

No contest, Solara. Not even in the same league. I'd barely look twice at the Stanza, but would gladly go head over handlebars hard onto my face full of gravel to catch a glimpse of a Talbot Solara. It's been what, 10+ years since I saw one drive past.

Other way round, surely? No...?

I went for the Solara, based solely on the fact a lot of people won't know who Talbot were and those that do probably hated them. So a double win

Solara. I never owned one, but a mate did. Bright red pov-spec ex-taxi.

I had a Stanza myself, 5 door 1600. Agree with Hirst, the handling was only alarming when you DLAC.

Solara every time. I've never seen one on the road, but one has appeared in my local scrapyard recently. I've really got the horn for one of these.
