gtd2000 Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 mind you - quite why anyone would want to go to that fucked up, evil, stalinist, tyrant run, abortion of a country is beyond me - funny as it is to sneer at their tin the human rights record for North Korea is abysmal - spend an hour on wikipedia and it is enough to turn your stomache- visiting such an evil, nasty, inhuman, barbaric place run by a bunch of obnoxious syphalitic cunts merely endorses their regime.....I find it fascinating. How better to appreciate a thing than to see it first hand?Exactly and find out if it really is as grim as it's been sold to you by the media...as we say in Scotland: "Ah'll believe it wen ah see it wi mah ain een"
MrDuke Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 mind you - quite why anyone would want to go to that fucked up, evil, stalinist, tyrant run, abortion of a country is beyond me - funny as it is to sneer at their tin the human rights record for North Korea is abysmal - spend an hour on wikipedia and it is enough to turn your stomache- visiting such an evil, nasty, inhuman, barbaric place run by a bunch of obnoxious syphalitic cunts merely endorses their regime..... Plenty of countries have evil, fucked-up, tyrannical governments and are run by obnoxious, barbaric cunts. Not all of them are communist, or even isolationist. Some of them are nice, friendly, capitalist holiday destinations. For instance (and I'm not just yank-bashing), travelling to the US would be endorsing and supporting a country whose government happily invades and subdues other nations for no good reason, and which is partly inhabited by several million bigoted, racist, redneck dolts. Have you looked into the history of their Nicaraguan 'activities'? And don't get me started on the UK I was surprised when I visited a couple of fairly off-the-track towns in northern China over 10 years ago - I really thought they'd be populated by brainwashed automatons living in filth and squirming under the eyes of martial law, but they turned out to be decent-looking places, full of people with dignity and respect for each other, and with genuine smiles on their faces. Yes, there were plenty of atrocities being committed behind closed doors, but who are we to judge their quality of life? I think that even if a visit to places like NK only serves to open someone's eyes to the true nature of communist states, it's worth it. Otherwise you're pretty much learning about the world through teh internetz, which is even more scary than totalitarian governments imo...
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I learned all I need to know about the world by watching European Vacation. The French are very rude, the Italians are mostly criminals and the Germans are alright until they suddenly go mental and chase you in a big truck. On the other hand, British people are overwhelmingly pleasant, because they can buy a Chrysler 2-Litre with a Morris Ital back end.
Andrew353w Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Not really North Korean related but... I travelled to east Berlin in 1976 with my (now late) Father. He spoke German so well he was considered as an interpreter with the E.U. Commission, so as the language wasn't a problem, we went on our own, as opposed to going in a group. On our return to west Berlin at about 5pm my father went through the immigration check without a hitch, but I was held for 3 hours! Apparently the G.D.R. officers were wary, as they thought I might have been "detained" somewhere in east berlin & someone else was impersonating me! I spent ages answering questions explaining who I was, what my Dad did, where we had been, where we were staying in West Germany, etc. etc. etc. I was eventually allowed to walk the 200 yards through to the American immigration check "Checkpoint Charlie" where my Dad was almost having a nervous breakdown! I was, without any shadow of a doubt THE most scary time of my life!
gtd2000 Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Going off at a very slight tangent, I find the folks that want Sharia law imposed on mankind a greater concern than North Korea.

gtd2000 Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 From my own point of view the theory of the last 3 items from your short list of 4 "known evils" isn't so unpalatable and makes option one the odd man out surely? Granted, reality and theory are very different and I don't subscribe to any of the 4 options. Once you take anything to the extreme it's a very bad idea. Can you imagine a world where it's Christmas every day of the fucking year???
