Current work assignment has placed me with a company that due to various financial reasons doesn't issue me with a fuel card. I get given £150 a day to spend on diesel. Now my question is what is the best garage chain to use to buy fuel? It doesn't have to be the cheapest, just the best for rewards. Are Nectar points good value? Or is there a better alternative?

Depends. When I worked for the car rental company I had a fuel card and always used Tesco - a couple of hundred quid a week easy mounts up to give you a decent Clubcard voucher after a few months.

Now I tend to use Shell. Purely for the Airmiles. I might go somewhere someday!

Aye, if you're spending £750 a week on juice the nectar points are gonna be huge, probably enough to cover your weekly shop, or a brimmed tank of juice in your car...

And a couple of hundred a day will be worth??????? 8)

Yeh, thats what I meant :D

A couple of hundred quid a day gives you a fairly handy amount of pretty much whichever scheme you choose.

So. Tesco or Nectar? Who's best?

Do you have a credit card? More specifically, do you have a cashback card, or a Tesco card?

Fill up at BP/Sainsbury's and collect Nectar. Pay on Tesco card for clubcard points, or cashback card for, erm, cashback. Hoard cash in savings account for pitiful amount of interest, then pay off card in full at end of each month.

750 clubcard points per week should give about 90quid per quarter off your shopping (or double on clubcard deals), and Nectar should give about the same again.

I know it sounds like a bit of fucking about, but it will double your benefits, and actually pays out in things you want/need.

Tesco points paid for our Eurostar tickets to Retromobile a couple of years ago and entrance to a couple of expensive museums etc. Depends what you want to do really, where you get your shopping or which capitalist entity least annoys you.

We have Tesco fuelcards at work. Sporty family shops at Asda, except once every three months, when the vouchers come in.

You've got to get some benefits from the job!

Whilst working for a vehicle hire firm, won't say who but part of the Northgate group I always used to fill up at Morrisons, found it quite easy to rack up enough points for a five pound voucher fairly regularly but as a 7.5 ton low loader only just went under the filling station canopy with a thousandeth of an inch to spare it may not be ideal for your big rig,

10-4 good buddy, eyeball eyeball,

(sorry warren, been watching smokey and the bandit again  )

Crikey, if my work gave me £150, I'd be on the next plane to Mexico with it.

Tescos on the East Lancs Rd has a special HGV fuelling bay! 8)

Nectar (BP & Sainsburys) has wider scope than Tesco, but some of the partners may not interest you e.g. Ford, Legoland, Philips. IIRC Morrisons miles is just money off at that store.

Pick up the two leaflets and see what you want - for instance, Tesco gets you Cineworld cinema tickets, whilst Nectar gets you Vue ones.

I vote for Tesco's also remember you get about 4 times the value if you trade in your club card points, so if you fancy taking a special lady out for a meal at Prezzos you can use £2.50 of Tesco vouchers and get £20 of your meal, I mounts up over a year, Especially if your spending £150 a day!
