Jaguar SV8 . Battle begins.

I have a new to me 4.2 supercharged Jag. - It has a rusty wheel at the passenger side rear.  A little bit of the sill needs a wee tickle with the magic zapper. To help with costs, I have found a few more coins under the rear seat.

If anyone here has experience of the XF, please chime in with advice.

Welcome to the 4.2 Supercharged club! Though mine is in an XJR. Just to boost your confidence along with the previous mention of therapy, I've had mine 18 months and its nearly on the road 🤣 Thankfully with the ally chassis/body no sparkly stick issues, but sadly, I think thats what eats the XF at this age. Good news is parts are pretty easy to come by, even from Jag (albeit at Jag prices) managed to renew all the coolant hoses on mine the other month, all still available from Jag, or a 3rd party but a genuine part. Mechanically I think they are pretty sound though, 4.2 is known for being a decent lump, just watch out for the valley hose, cheap part, but 4hrs to replace.

Jealous. I looked at these in the past - rust, high VEL and not many good ones went against me.

My F11 doesn't have a V8 burble but for everyday use it is not much slower and will do over 40mpg.

I think the 4.2 has fewer issues than the 5.0.

More pictures please. And good luck.

ISTR these have some of the nicest wheels ever fitted to a production car?

If I am right, then... Visuals. Chop chop.

Passenger side wheels are curbed to hell - but we'll leave that until later. I'll post more pics at the weekend - I have made the car watertight, mostly, as the boot was a weak point. Turns out it was the usual welds below the rear lights and those grills for the boot. I managed to grab some metal from work, which will help keep the costs down.

The main point for little updates is that I was waiting for my new welder - a Paton Euromig, which is now in my possession. I have tested it after work today and I am very impressed, very impressed indeed for the money.

As I said, there will be more updates soon. Thanks for any tips coming my way, as it is a different beast from the RR Classic 3.9.

Some progress today, despite the rain. Good news and bad news.

Some of the welding appears straight forward, however it's near to the petrol tank. Could I drain and then weld after taking precautions ?

Inside has scrubbed up well.

Now to the wheel arch:

Closer look with the bad stuff taken out: You can see the bit inside that will need welded, but is close to the fuel tank.

The top hole is  a complete MOT failure rust hole as it's next to the belt anchor. This cannot be seen by the tester, however, as it's covered by the wheel arch liner and interior posh seat stuff.

Photo before cutting out.
