scraped my bumper..anyone help me with a Ford colour match?

Im so annoyed, after all the hard work ive put in breathing life back into my Cabriolet ive gone and scraped my bumper against a low wall while backing out of a friends twisty narrow driveway.

does anyone know the exact name/code Ford gave for this metallic silver/grey colour they painted the bumper with on this model?

I think the cars a limited edition, one of the last of the mk 4 cabriolets. Those are not the original wheels by the way, they are earlier ones I fitted because I couldnt find the originals.

any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

i know my bro-in-laws silver/grey part of his car was called "moondust grey"

Aye, looks the same as the colour used on Sapphire Cosworths, which was Moondust.

It could be Moondust Silver although I think the camera is making the car look darker than it actually is. A detailed history of the Escort Cabriolet Special Editions was on the Cabriolet Club Website but has disappeared which listed all the available colours for the Tu Tone.

I should be able to work out the colour from the VIN number.

Looks like Nimbus Grey too............ As fitted to RST's of similar vintage.

I'm fairly sure that's Moondust Grey also although it's a bit difficult to tell on pictures. Don't get it confused with Moondust Silver - which is definitely a brighter silver. If the picture isn't quite a true reflection of the actual colour, I'd lean towards the grey rather than the silver. I'd Google it to be doubly sure with yourself.

Mercury Grey is a darker shade. This was actually the first colour that come to my mind but the bumpers look too light for that. It was a very popular colour for the Escort at this time (even appeared for a few years on the mk5), but I'm almost certain you can rule that out.

I know how frustraiting it can be. A few months ago I found a tiny little 'nick' on the offside corner front bumper of my own car. It’s only about half an inch long and a few millimetres thick, but it's there... I've no idea how it got there, so I presume it’s been done by someone else in a car park somewhere.

I see you have the late 1990 Ford brochure also, Marshall! I've also got it! :D I've got the one from mid 1992 too. Why doesn't any manufacturer make them like this with the whole range in any more? Very logical and simple to follow. Obviously cost cutting...

It's definately not Mercury grey. I don't think it's moondust either.

Unfortunately, I don't know what it is. No paint codes anywhere?

Yeah I know what you mean MK5. I've actually got loads of 'em and far too many other brands too lol

The Ford brochures always used to be about the best showing all the individual models in each range. That said I drew a bit of a blank on this Cabrio paint malarkey! :?

Individual Honda Brochures used to be good as well and Audi.... I'll get me coat (anorak!)

you could be right Trigger as the blue part IS the same colour as the Escort Eclipse.

Ive just come back from the local Evans Halshaw Ford dealer and they had a look on the computer for me. sadly there was no longer any information on any MK 4 escort model.

The old boy did his best for me though and had a ruddy good look but told me the previous boss threw away the Microfiche machine containing such old data on older cars as he was 'sick of people coming in asking for such things' as it was 'too much hassle' what a nob.

People like that really annoy me at the end of the day yes they need to make money but they also need to supply a service they were happy to take the customers money when the car was new and should continue to provide back up until that cars days are done.

Now the new KA is out hes probably gonna scrap all the parts and service information for the MKI KA hoping that way some of the old dears who drive them will be persueded into buying the new model as you can no longer get parts for the old one.

been looking high and low for a colour called 'moonstone silver' or 'moonstone grey', and it turns out its actually 'moonstone blue'.

I must be colour blind as it doesnt look anything like blue to me!

My old Sapphire Cosworth was Moonstone blue, but it said "Grey" on the logbook. Used to irritate me, that did.
