A quarter of the remaining Hyundai scoupes …

Dependant on your belief in how many left , or what you actually know about them , meet my very big collection of Hyundai scoupes . In Scoupe terms having four , 3 of which are turbos is a lot .

Hyundai Scoupe turbo …remember them ? No most people don’t 😀 Hyundai wasn’t very well known then, and was basically building cars to Mitsubishi spec. The Scoupe was their very first shot at a sports car of sorts, and naturally it wasn’t very good , being a Hyundai pony chassis (remember them?😀) that had a fortune spent on it ….proving you can take a crap chassis throw a fortune at it and end up with …an expensive crap chassis ….

This isn’t going to be one for perfectionists so look away now …

Anyway to the point ….there are arguably less than 10 left in the UK in roadworthy condition . Parts are none existent and it’s a minefield keeping them going including literally having to use more modern bits off Elantra’s etc and extra parts of other cars - any Scoupe fans ? Certainly one of the rarer modern cars in the UK…is it classic ? I doubt it, just old shite but far more acceptable shite now than when new .

The purple one is worst condition overall and stood for 11 years before I rescued it but it had been done up as a fast and furious car with a Subaru front bumper . It’s closer now than it’s ever been to standard . The M reg belonged to an elderly couple in Colchester and stood for around 3 years , The L reg spent about 13 years with no mot in a garage belonging to an old lady who covered 66000 in it  - and my most recent acquisition was the black one having stood again around 13 years in a garage with literally one lady owner and 27000 miles

Are they really any good ? Well don’t listen to anyone at the end of a bar and you should be ok. As usual rust is the enemy if the shortage of parts don’t get you first …

I had completely forgotten about those! Certainly a good proportion of the  survivors you have there!

If these are based on a pony underneath are they as tough - the Hyundai Pony was quite sought after in Banger racing circles as they could be built to be hard! Be worth asking on oval chat etc if you need any internal bits

Lovely stuff!

Why has this ended up in the modern section though?

@brownnova or some other moderator (I can't remember who is or isn't) please!

Probably my fault because on most forums it classes as modern 😂 apologies and misproncrunciations

Not seen one for decades, possibly?

As a student, in the early 90's I was running around in an '86 Pony 1.5 GLS, cost me a whopping £240, when it was only six years old!

At the same time, I was having some "exercise" with a lass that had a white Hyundai Scoupe.

I'd imagine mechanical parts are not too much of a worry?

It’s mainly body and interior but suspension at front is hard , springs hard except lowered , certain bits of the suspension arms , rear axles ,etc .

stuff like filters fuel pumps etc is available
