Yes you needed that to hand to cover any stone chip or scratch, otherwise it would rust so quickly, you’d have no car left inside a year.

I remember a post on a forum (can't remember which) in about 2007 or 2008. It went something like this:

 

I took my Mondeo for an MOT and the tester noted on the certificate "temporary repair effected to the bumper with gaffer tape". I thought, come on mate, we both know that's not temporary.

I'm so glad it wasn't just mine that rusted there!! Had plenty of cars go crusty at the bottom of the door, but only my Sierra went below the window line. Fortunately, white duck tape is virtually the same colour as Ford Diamond White. Invisible repair*
