Seems odd that it'll only come on after about 20-30seconds then can be deleted and not come back till a restart, yet the sensor is running max fuel trim the whole time. Would have thought it would come back/be on constantly if it was a leak or a sensor?

EDIT: Also goes off by itself after about 15mins. So seems it is a split second thing. Im wondering if the wiring for the O2 heater and the sensor wire are mixed up or something. Will double check resistance from the sensors on the OBD later, feeling a bit too under the weather atm. Also not looking forward to trying to jack up the Jag on a sloped gravel drive 🙄😬

Did my wiring ever get redone? If not i would assume i did a f*** up. In my defence i did my best to undo the horror of what the last "mechanic"/garage did to it!

Not touched the wiring apart from tucking it up out of the way a bit. Will try swapping out the lambda for one of the spares that was with it (if i can find them!) and see if that makes a difference. Im sure ill get time at some point🫣

Volt in for the replacement stud and/or Hub and MOT tomorrow 😬 Hopefully it'll pass, as the 80p to get it 40 miles is a lot cheaper than the £8 it'd cost in the BMW with current diesel prices!

12 months ticket!
Interesting to see the different advisories between testers. Minor/Major/Dangerous defects were all done. Advisories werent touched (apart from tyres obviously due to the fail). aparently end of the springs are looking very suspect and due to snap, he did look them up, but its either "we aint got those" or £200 a spring, if anyone knows if they are used on anything else vauxhall let me know! Autodoc have some for £200 for a pair, but thats the best ive seen so far.

Managed 37 miles on a charge including MOT test and sitting "on" when getting wheel alignment sorted. Reasonably happy with that for being only about 9 or 10c outside.

Hark at you and your 37 miles!! This bugger of mine steadfastly refuses to go past 21 miles range regardless of the temperature…

Does it do more than 21 miles? It did for me - it would say 21 miles, but do 14 miles and still have 12 left! Too long using it for short trips I think in cold weather so it got cautious. I am sure there is a reset and relearn for the SoC and range meter!

Been happy with running costs for the Volt so far. 120 miles down since the MOT (had a few trips out at the weekend with friends who were visiting), and only 0.5L of fuel used, mainly due to being about 1 mile short each time we've been out 😅. Total cost about £4 which im happy with!

Also had a notification that the indicator housing from the US will arrive on thursday, so will get that swapped over when my bodge gives up.

I normally use a local indy garage for tests but they're not open weekends so I used ATS for this one, who 4 days later announced they were going out of business, maybe the tester had already heard that news and was in a bad mood...

Very glad to see you've got it up and running and it's serving you well!

A little update....

First off, used the XJR to tow for the first time the other day. And it handled it perfectly. Got quite a few remarks when I drove it to the local metal recycling place, not sure they've seen meany XJRs doing 3 point turns in the middle of a pile of scrap 😅. I do think the trailer designed helped though, having never towed before the trailer having a nice long A-frame meant it felt very balanced (and will be for sale at some point in the near future!).

Still getting that restricted performance warning. So today had the chance to use my new low profile jack and get the car up in the air to check for issues....

Downpipe connection looks very snug since @Jikovron fixed it, dont think its blowing from there, can definitely hear something though.

Swapped out the lambda sensor for another spare (proper denso DOX whatever it is they come with from the factory) and started it up and tried a livedata run. Same issue happening! First 10 seconds of starting the sensor slowly creeps up in mA and fuel trims up to the max (25%). I did notice that with a gentle blip of the throttle it dipped to 22% ish. So tried a BIG full throttle blip. Shoots down to 0%/stoichemic and then back up again instantly. Gave it the big blip 4 times in a row and then the sensor gets "stuck" at 0%/stoiochemic and stays there from then on. Bank 2 working as it should and moving all over the place.

Now, what could be causing this? Could it be a blow, seems related to exhaust pressure, but at the same time, going from max to 0 enrichment and nothing else suggests wiring. I did notice that the wires are slighly different colour codes between the old loom and the added/replaced piece...

Can't really get a good photo on it, but the lowest wire here that you can see coming out as red from the black sheath, goes into a light purple wire. All the others match on both sides of the join, so not sure if thats just a wiring colour code change later on, or something else is afoot. Other bank is totally different colours, so maybe there had been a change further up??!

I also noticed the gearbox was looking a little...wet

Checked the tighness of the bolt and I could almost spin it with my fingers. So gave it a gentle nip-up to hopefully stop the leak.

Been doing a little more digging on the wiring front. Just been through almost every Jaguar wiring diagram for all models of that era (great fun..) and can't find any that have the purple wire to the lambda connector, so not sure what happened there ( @DirtyDaily you may have to fill me in on what was done) but I did notice an interesting discrepancy between the 2003/2004 model XJRs and future versions.....

hegosensor.jpg.ce87c6063044176e6fc2822adffeebbf.jpg

As you may be able to see, the 4 pin plug on the more recent version has just 4 wires, with one Red-Blue wire. The earlier models have 5 wires, with the two Red-Blue wires joining at some point beforehand.  Problem is, im not sure where the "PIS11" join might be on the loom to check.

Another thing that puzzled me, as far as i knew, upstream sensor was the lambda and pre-cat, the downstream is more an efficieny sensor for the cat?  So why does the diagram have the downstream labelled with a lambda symbol, and the upstream with just a U?

Im not going to be much help. I think your best bet perhaps would be to just probe the harness on the car and see if it marries up to each connector on the sensor. I feel like i did this but i cant remember.

I just wish the wiring diagram told you which side was the heater and which side was the sensor, would help me work a few bits out!

In other news, nasty grinding noises from the Volt the other day, driving sounded a bit like a wheel bearing, low speed sounded like a steel bridge moments before collapse😬 Thought maybe it was the hubnut (not you @dollywobbler 😅) as they are known for coming loose on these. Nope that was fine... BUT ... one of the bolts on the wheel was cross-threaded and another two were rather loose compared to where I'd expect them to be which is a little worrying! Tightened the 4 correctly-threaded nuts up and all is well again. But for the 2nd time in a month I now have to drive about with 4 nuts of a 5 stud wheel...

Jag still stinks of pure fuel at idle yet says running lean on the sensor. Went to get in it today to move it on the drive and found the rear view mirror hanging by the wires. The clip that secures it to the windscreen has fallen off 🤦‍♂️ Looks like its been re-attached a few times as there is a lot of glue/gunk on both the holder and the windscreen, so going to be an interesting one to try to stick back on I reckon. Any reccomendations?
