Keeping a very tired car going?

Take time to save up to buy a good example of something you want. Time and again you read on here about one of these bargains that just wants this that the other, or swapping one fucked car for another. Also consider what your capacity to cover the bills are, if you are brassic don’t go buying 15 year old Audi Q7s.

If you like it, surely that's enough to sort it?

Particularly if you can do the work yourself.

Like, I suspect, many others on here, I'm guilty of pouring cash into my vehicles, far more than I'd actually get back if I was ever to sell them, but at the end of the day, it's mine, it does what I want it to, in one case it does in one vehicle what I would need several for otherwise ( tow car, van, people carrier, dog transport, builders wagon etc) and all I want is something that starts when I turn the key, and stops when I put my foot on the brake!

I probably wouldn't be saying this if I had to pay for repairs, but most cars much reach a ' fix or scrap' point in their lives, unless they're trailer queen/showcar stuff?

Get your spanners out 😁

I used to do a lot more of my own repairs, mainly brakes and lighter suspension repairs etc. I haven't done much in a while, probably just being lazy... But I found the CRV ideally needs a high lift jack as the suspension has so much travel and it always felt a bit dodgy stacking chunks of wood under the jacking point.

Maybe this is the nudge to get a proper jack and the tools I've wanted for a while? Man maths at work here, of course.

I accidentally bought a truck trolley jack, not sure what the rating is, but it'll lift getting on for 4 foot!

Makes working on stuff so much easier, apart from the damn thing is so heavy it's difficult to move around the drive.

I've also got a 2 post lift, but that always seems to have something abandoned and immobile on it 🤦
