whilst we we out to see bagnac, which has took a turn for the worse

 

its once stunning staircase now gone its tower roofs now collapsed, i do in a way feel somewhat privilged to be able to say i managed to walk those stairs and other parts of the building before they disappear but a real shame at the same time..

Château de Châteaubrun - closed to public (but no sign and gate was open, as soon as we walked out we got 10 foot away and the door slammed closed, oops, but hey got some great pics)

Château de la Prune au Pot - Open to public could go to top of both towers but nothing to stop of falling trough any of the numerous windows, doors, ledges etc, scary stuff indeedy

 

 

Unlit but down one set of stairs was what looked like another floor, was in fact a reflection...

great place, love it, what exploring is all about... another seemingly abandoned in the 1950's

Next door was the business end of the chateau...

but this was dated 1893 discarded as trash

hi not sure of its exact age, history is very thin, it was massive place the moat was feed by a river which ran alongside the property was constantly running but did have a lock too, the 'jardins du chateau' or gardens are very well kept as it is now a 18 hole golf course which covers over 60 hectares there is also permission to convert the chateau into a 4 star hotel but i'm still to confirm this..

and here it is on google maps, i can confirm the other buildings (titled lieu dit) are also part of the chateau.. like i said a massive site zoom out to see golf course

in this picture, it already looks abandoned you can no longer see any of the windows..

Such a shame.

Was there some sort of taxation change in the 50s that caused all these places to be abandoned?
