tooSavvy Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 Well..... First port of call = PAS Dipstick. Fluid is just wetting bottom tip of (presumably = low) skinny stick, poking down from screw in bottle top 🤔 I'll refill to top of the 'skinny stick' dipstick + tonight, when I park, I will slot an unfolded newspaper under the front (nipped by tyre) and tomorrow we will see colour of drips [green in PAS] 👍😐 The car came with 'throwaway' 3month Warranty 🤐. I may just read it up.... 🚙💨
tooSavvy Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 Ffinn Ell . . . 🔧⚙️🕑 'Designed for Living'!! Origami+ (... no clues to find ALL the screws 🤬) Used a sheet of folded stiff paper to 'funnel' PAS juice... Now up to FULL 👍 🚙💨 privatewire, Jim Bell, auntiemaryscanary and 2 others 5
tooSavvy Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 Imagine yourself standing near a shop, the shop is being refitted.... Inside, a guy is slicing 3/8ply with his circular saw <zeezeeingnnninngggg>..... Imagine me, sitting in my car, having that soundtrack played out through the bulkhead [except when turning on a roundabout/over half lock] IT'S DRIVING ME NUTTZ 🤪 I know the pumps have a rep [all Vx forri say as much] but mine was totally silent until 3 days ago 😕 Is it eating itself 😵💫 🚙💨 loserone 1
tooSavvy Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 Someone... oot there, in the Webbie Netherworld... has stated that the PAS Motor DOESN'T run in 'dead ahead' and any noises will be heard when it is UNDER LOAD 😯... Bit of lateral thinking here >> as the Alt puts a whacking current INTO the PAS Motor [when PAS is loaded] could the corrollary be the Alt is making the noise/bearings... And 'shuts up' when heaving juice into the PAS 🤔 Do we reckon, with the hood up, I'm going to get a crack at locating this 'whine'... ✔️ 🚙💨 Jim Bell 1
tooSavvy Posted September 3 Author Posted September 3 After some further thoughts..... It can't be the Alt. The noise 'runs on' & dies for a second AFTER the engine has stopped, so must be standalone source 😕 I will listen with the hood open..... 🚙💨
tooSavvy Posted September 3 Author Posted September 3 I stood infront of the car, hood up >> it's the PUMP 😕
tooSavvy Posted September 3 Author Posted September 3 Fitted my 'reversing sensors' 🔧✔️ Perhaps the line of location is mildly sub-optimal.... but CrashBar is right where it should be 🙄. Drilled and numbered the fly leads.. Fed them singly through the little gap, under the light pod. I have taken a 'fly lead' of +12V off the rev lighting plug and just need to pick up a -Ve Ground. I will not be using the led display (it has the bleeper in it) so everything will be bundled up behind the clip-in grille over the lights. I needed to make a small notch, in the lamp casing, where it crushes the foam gasket... allowing the sensor cabling to come through into the boot 👍 Not wired up at this time.... Lunch Gong!! 🚙💨 Marshall2810, AnnoyingPentium, Dave_Q and 6 others 9
tooSavvy Posted September 3 Author Posted September 3 Ahh...... Lunch, mmmmm 😉 Picked up Ground from chassis nut, just below lamp unit ♥️ Gentle fold over to consume all lengths, cable tie + snip off. Feed into void 👍 Bleeping Marvelous, M9 💰 🚙💨 Jim Bell, loserone, privatewire and 2 others 5
tooSavvy Posted September 4 Author Posted September 4 After somewhat shambolic 'jiggery pokery', with a BMW estate rear spoiler >> just not making it! We have received today my 'revised contender' = flat across width ✔️ thin in section ✔️ and good proportion/profile ✔️ 😎 A Porsche part for £22 delivered 🙄 🚙💨 privatewire, Matty and loserone 1 2
tooSavvy Posted September 4 Author Posted September 4 Whilst lying under AVAS arse, squinting up, wrapping together the reversing sensor cabling - bright sun 😲... ... I was in awe of the humongous back box + it's NEWness 🤣. The front Flexi was done by the seller 👍 General chassis condition is NON rusty & all the fuel hoses and brake lines are looking factory fresh.... Lanoguard lash worthy!! Bought on 60,700.. Now 63,550 >> good test drive for 1st month 🚀 🚙💨 Dave_Q, privatewire, AnnoyingPentium and 2 others 5
tooSavvy Posted September 4 Author Posted September 4 The lip spoiler is a glass fibre sandwich, with the locator diaphragm glued in... Removing the inner, with a chisel and then using a very sharp wood chisel to skin/peel the adhesive = bastard ITCHY HANDS 😕 It will all prove worth it, in the end 🤣 🚙💨 privatewire 1
tooSavvy Posted September 4 Author Posted September 4 Well.... That was fun [not..🤬] Just crested the main road, at Westerhope, on our way to The Poachers for lunch.... NO PAS.... Like a flipping elephant is sitting on the bonnet!! I'll have to wrestle AVAS back home and get my Oily Spanner on the hunt for a scrappy ZF pump (needs Tech2, apparently for the CanBus).... That's us on the bus for a few days 😐 AVAS = 💰💰 🚙💨 Matty, loserone and AnnoyingPentium 3
tooSavvy Posted September 4 Author Posted September 4 My local guy, Kevin, has done a few... If I get the pump, he will whack it in 👍 Canny ✔️ 🚙💨 loserone 1
tooSavvy Posted September 5 Author Posted September 5 Been out to the car.... taking photos of the Pompe 🙄 ..... guy at the breakers needs to know EXACTLY what I have.... Like there are two versions of my Astra ZF Pompe. I only see ONE in my Webbie searches.. As long as we're all happy, eh 👍 🚙💨 privatewire 1
tooSavvy Posted September 6 Author Posted September 6 Pompe @£50 cash ..... Collect 1pm. 🚀🔧👍 🚙💨 loserone and Matty 2
tooSavvy Posted September 6 Author Posted September 6 Looking at this 'monkey snipped cabling, in yard' photo.... 😯 Seems this motor is pulling them amps 😲 🚙💨 privatewire and Matty 2
tooSavvy Posted September 6 Author Posted September 6 Though the PAS is dead, I'm still helming AVAS (developing those he-man muscles whilst I'm at it....). Gots to say the Rear Parking Bleepers are a revelation!! Very difficult to chop the estate back end in with confidence of NOT tip-touching >> small rear window 😶🌫️ My Bleepers are punching me straight in @10" min = solid beeeeee 😉 Maggikkk 👍 🚙💨 privatewire 1
tooSavvy Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 Pompe Achieved ♥️🎈 .... And we have Top Up, as required ✔️ 🚙💨 privatewire 1
tooSavvy Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Dropped the pump into the garage + top-up fluid. He is quite busy, one man and a gofer operation, so is looking to have AVAS up on his lift Thursday. I will take it around on Wed pm, he will put it on the lift before he goes home and it will be clay cold in the morning, 07:30 start. Reckons on dropping the subframe.... 🚙💨 privatewire and Matty 2
tooSavvy Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 2 hours ago, ProgRocker said: Has the Astra replaced the Getz? Yeah.... #laughter mocking Bart# Wanted an auto/slush.... Began eliminating cars as they got newer but without slushhie. The Aisin 4sp is fitted to GM Saturn >> the Septics can't break it *BIG selling point for me 😉. I've wanted an estate for a lifetime... Just never hit the GO button. I don't much like the 'astra slug' shape BUT when I spotted an H estate [with rear dark glass] giving off 'classic square back' vibes.. unlike sloping Wagons.. I hit the BUY button! The fact it's broken doesn't bother me, I'll hammer the fuck out of it... then something else will pop 🤣 It's a quiet, roomy WooshVagen🚀 ♥️ 🚙💨 ProgRocker, Matty, AnnoyingPentium and 5 others 8
tooSavvy Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Anyway.... More IMPORTANTLY!! Tyres 😯 On the front a fresh pair of Sailwin Antares 68 tyre 👍 Had a wee moment, just Sunday, as I sailed straight on negotiating a mini rbt... and I've been having bother 'getting off the line' as they light up under acceleration... Wet roads, of course. None of the allys are kerbed 👍 I think the Smart Money is on Kumhos 😐 🚙💨 privatewire 1
tooSavvy Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 As a 'side consequence' of AVAS being crocked .. SWMBO likes to be out/have lunch in a pub = 💰 Staying near home/lunching in the house is making a 💰saving!! That 'positive cashflow' is contributing to my ultimate repair bill ⚙️🔧👍 🚙💨 loserone, Marshall2810 and privatewire 3
Stanky Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Kumhos are decent IMHO, I've had some for 35k miles on an Almera , yonks ago, they wore well and gripped fine, and I now have PS71s on my 200bhp RWD lexus and they grip fine, especially so in the wet. They'd be a fine choice on the Astra. tooSavvy 1
tooSavvy Posted September 11 Author Posted September 11 Just stuck my head around the door, at the lockup... Shuffling strategies currently applied should see AVAS positioned on his 2 poster @Teatime Thursday. Job ON ... Friday✔️😉 He has had a bit of worrying news.. Landlord of building is selling up and new owner doesn't want a sitting tennant. He reckons he'll just go back on the tools. Exchange & Mart: Newish 2poster for sale 😕 🚙💨 loserone 1
tooSavvy Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 I'm really missing my driving AVAS 😕 ..... Weekend Beckons 🚀💞 🚙💨 privatewire 1
tooSavvy Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 Yo, Ho and UP she rises...!👍 Car is in and the mechanic went under, looked up... and started $wearing 😵 *Good call >> not trying DIY with TJ + Axlestands 😶🌫️ 🚙💨 loserone 1
tooSavvy Posted September 12 Author Posted September 12 YaY.. 🎈🎈🎈🎈 Car all done.... NO Xmas tree lights!! £80 2hrs (+£50 pump) = £130 ♥️👍 🚙💨 auntiemaryscanary, loserone, privatewire and 1 other 3 1
tooSavvy Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 Swift blast around the edge of nowhere... 88miles and extremely 'twirly whirly' in those tight turns 👍👍 To quote Donkey... "Back on the road again!" 🚙💨 privatewire 1
