Mercedes spares NOT sold here... +Bluebird Turbo!

Just back from my local scrappies, intending to come home with a rear shelf with speaker holes, and a rear seatbelt for my 190.Not been down for some time,so was surprised to see stacks and stacks (literally) of Mercs. W201's, W124's W202's W210's, even the odd R129! Upon asking about aforementioned parts I was told that nothing was for sale- "it all goes to Africa mate".

It was about this time I noticed the amount of very (very) dark coloured gentlemen in overalls working away. I then wandered away to another scrappies, and was told the same thing..and upon remembering I'd parked my newly washed 190D outside the entrance to the yard of Mercs I thought I'd better get in and get out of there before it ended up in Cameroon.

This is scary folks. I can't buy used parts for my car up here,so now have to depend upon Ebay, and fight with everyone else to get any parts I need..I used to be able to go down and get whatever I needed.

Also, if there is so much money in these cars, that it is worthwhile sending them halfway across the world, how long will it take before there is a old Merc theft epidemic?

GRRRRR, I'm annoyed.

On the upside, spotted this immaculate Bluebird Turbo, being shadowed by a Lincoln Hen Night. First one I've ever seen without the optional arse out the window. Rare.

Was the bluey turbo for sale??

This just shows how crap the scrappage was and how green car shit is so over the top here in the UK. We have strict rules on emissions etc and cars get checked every year at MOT so most cars are pretty good.

Thousands of cars have been needlessly junked under the scrappage scheme but it's o.k to ship this 'scrap' half way around the world to keep cars on the road in countries that probably have no emissions regulations at all.

Just crazy...

I doubt very much it would be for sale.. it was hemmed in on every angle by piles of cars.I reckon it wouldn't need much more than a wash! Interior was immaculate too.

I agree with everything you said.. it makes me

Surely the bloke can put a Merc aside for you? Why are most scrappy owners miserable gits?

Some don't seem to have much business acumen either, they would rather squash something for fifty quid rather than get that just for the engine, then squash what's left. Also, the merc export thing happened with the Mk2 transit a while back. Saw an absolute minter in a yard once, it was destined for Russia! Not for sale, already sold. Welcome to my world.....
