as sparks dance gaily on my legs.

This had me lolling.

Seeing a wiring loom spilling out everywhere like that is the stuff of nighmares for me.

I reckon if I attempted this there could be a short trip over a long bridge shortly after for said vehicle.

Good on ya for giving it a crack you are obviously knowledgable............. brave, stupid, or some combination. I shall reserve judgment for a few days :lol:

Yeah, I'm sure at some point I'll get it started - not getting fuel, spark, and I've had to charge the battery twice now.

The strange thing is, all the Vauxhall interweb sites are really shit now - no technical help on that side.

Ouch!

Are you replacing dash/engine bay harness only or the main loom as well ?

Posted

Just the dash harness, the engine one is fine!

It's not getting spark as I said, and no fuel - I think. There's a pressure valve on the fuel rail. If it's pressurised, it'll spray fuel, but it's just a pfft now. Put some engine start in and it did that 'I'm trying to start, but I'm having difficulty'. Not sure what's wrong.

Favourite subject wiring (No really , it's easy)

Get yourself a decent multimeter and check for resistance and continuity.

Failing that - Start from scratch

Good luck Dave

I do love wiring! It always works out in the end. I've multimeter'd an old loom from another car, about 200 wires. All had 0 resistance, and still didn't work.

Found the problem, a (fucking) wire had been (fucking) cut at the (fucking) ignition switch. It only went straight to the (fucking) fuel pump. No doubt for an immobiliser.

a reach around behind the dashboard, and a few sharp tugs

ooh ... imagine!

(If it helps, I typed that in Kenneth Williams' voice)

The bitch passed it's MOT today after two fails. I thought I'd be sneaky and take it elsewhere on the second one, but it failed on other things (headlight aim, handbrake below threshold).

Hurrah!
