Nurburgring or Bust June 2024

Kicking this one off the bucket list, cause I'm practically a racing driver, ken. 😁

Plan = leave on the ferry Harwich to Hook of Holland 11pm Weds 26th June. Sail back Sunday 7th July 11pm. My Daughter is flying into Munich on 3rd July and staying with us until Sat 6th. 👍

Arrive at Dorint Am Nürburgring Hocheifel on Saturday 29th, stay two nights. Sunday 30th is a race car experience with Ring Freaks, 10 laps in their race prepared E90. Staying local on Monday 1st July and doing as many laps as possible that evening, fingers crossed, in our own motors.

My son Jake is running the Autoshite acquired (cheers Tom!) Megane 2 RS 225 which has been info for a wee bit of work, replacement coolant res, new Accelera tyres and CV joint, N engine service.

I'm running a 986 Boxster. Loads of work done on this previously including a full set of Bilstein shocks,  thought it was just about ready, but still needs N/S drive shaft gaiter, N bit of brake pipe-age for a fresh ticket to ride, current expires on the 30th June.  Approaching 150,000 miles. Will be it's 21st MOT having just turned 24-years, first reg June 2000.

Scene of the fail. Brake pipes not shown but angry red and needs doing. Booked in for later next week so should be ready to go in time...

Both cars are similar in weight power, so should be interesting. Wish us luck, hope to update this thread when we're on the road in a couple of weeks time. 👍

Good luck!
You must have a friendly MoT tester, I thought that black plates were only allowed on vehciles made before 1980?

You might not be the only Scotsmen in a Renault at the ring, my mate is away over again without me this time🥲

Now about that roof. I cleaned and recoloured it in the factory blue, but that must be three years ago. It's a sorry state.

Set about it today with this kit

Scrubbed it four times.

And it's getting there.

Stubburn stains remain. Instructions say you can coat it and scrub it and then cover it and leave it over night to work away under cover, going to try that with the last of the cleaner that's left. Will then treat with the protectant after a good rinse off again in the morning. The roofs in pretty good nick, it did have the plastic rear window replaced by the previous owner.

P>S> I made sure the front and rear drains were clear before starting as it takes a hell of a water to rinse off the cleaner.

I will do; I'll be the one cruising round with the roof doon while keeping right. 😉

Full rinse again this am, did 3 hours work and then in the shade, added the protector which took two good applications and soaked in well. Not only looks 75.7% better but should prolonged the roof fabric life by a factor of 3.24. I must look after it better, shame on me Pete, sorry.

Pete the Porsche is ready to go. Ticket to Ride issued 23.06.2024.

Known and current issues, starter squawks on start up, sometimes, ABS light comes on 'sometimes' and then goes away again, I think it's corrosion/pitting on the rear stub axle(s) which stops the reluctor ring from picking up the signal, sometimes, and other times it does, all four wheel speed sensors work (show wheel speed correctly) as does the ABS pump or it, the idiot light would never go off.  :lipsrsealed:

Remote central locking is fubar, I've tried everything, and given up and just use the key! But you have to be quick 'sometimes' and get the key in the ignition or all hell breaks loose on the alarm front which is ear splitting loud and the horn goes off too. What a dinn...

Heater fan went weird recently and was only off, at position two and at speed two on all other four speeds. Okay. Gambled on a SH replacement and that fixed it. 27 quid from Douglas Valley Breakers for all things Boxster.  :dankk2:

It also puffs a little bit of smoke 'sometimes' on start up, flat engines do this as when you think about it, any unburnt fuel oil mist left in the bores has nowhere to go but out the exhaust, where as on an inline upright engine gravity will allow it to flow down & back. That's my excuse, certainly never uses any oil in-between changes, thank feck, or water. And what an engine it is, my favourite NA petrol engine ever.   :highfive:

Full breakdown cover in place, natch. It's the Germany or bust tour 2024. Must do Stuttgart too!

P.S. Shame about that damn dent in the door, it wasn't me folks.

Is it an S, mate? No someone just put the S badge on. But to be fair, they did add the 17" S wheels and Brembo calipers, so fair play.  I added the smoked rear lenses because I'm a tart like that. E marked mate, road legal.

This's the glorious noise Pete makes, as recorded by the Porsche chaps that did the mod back in the day, previous owner to me.  :vrolijk_26: Shouldn't be allowed and isn't in Germany, but my papers will be order.
