Despite the seeming ineptitude of most of the people working here I’ve found my seat.

Funny looking train. Good news is that it’s fast and there are no stops on the way 👍🏻

I daren’t increase the PC on here 💩

Now for a 400+ mile drive home via a couple of stops. Wish me luck!

Obligatory first fill up shot

That's a stunning colour for those. 400 miles? Home for dinner, then?

I am now Saab'nt 😞

A quality choice, lovely to meet you.

Nice that my A8 was able to relive old memories of airport pick ups too!

If anyone knows of a manual gearbox example, hit me up!

Stopped at Gretna Green services after the first 100 miles or so for some sustenance and score my first PC. First impressions:

Mr Split Pin is a thoroughly decent Shiter. Kind enough to collect me from the airport in his famous wafty A8; the Saab is as described.

The car behaves very well on the road, plenty of mid range, comfortable, Bluetooth was a bonus I wasn’t aware of so navigation is made easier and I have my tunes banging. The car is very well insulated with the roof up (I’m in Scotland, there’s a chance it’ll come down when the rain stops!). I like it a lot so far and am already making plans to fettle it a little and make some of my own improvements.

Next stop somewhere near Manchester!

Another stop at the famous Tebay services on the M6. Perfect weather for my new soft top. £80 spent in the farm shop, I hope the food tastes as good as it looks!

I got home at 10:30, tired and very happy.

My last stop before coming home was to visit a friend in Cheshire who has some interesting vehicles

He’s completely rebuilt the Chevette HS, it’s a strange and lovely thing

The Saab excelled itself over the 400+ miles home, a real pleasure to drive. I averaged just under 35mpg which is impressive given 2 huge traffic jams on the M6 totalling almost an hour and a further hold up when I left Cheshire. Coupled with a bit of playing with the mid-range torque which is quite addictive and surprised a few newer cars on the journey it used a lot less fuel than I expected. It rained almost the entire journey home, so the only topless action was driving away from Split Pin’s house. I will hopefully find some time over the weekend to start on the few little jobs I have in mind for the car and apologise to everyone for the lack of summer we will have in 2024 now I’ve bought another soft top - it’s happened both times before!

This was no Mr Bollox-scale adventure, but I had a great day and hope to have provided some worthwhile reading material for you.

Wow 35mpg, I only managed 32 in nearly 3 years. Once 😂

Glad it drove well, told you it would make it! I'm glad it's gone to a good home and to someone that appreciates it and will only improve it. I look forward to seeing that.

I’m sure I’m about to destroy that average and never see it again!

Great to meet you yesterday, it was a pleasure to buy a car from you. Wind deflector got to my house before the car. With this weather it’ll never see the light of day 🤣
