EGR thermostat replaced today.

New one on the left, O ring not included however I had replaced the old one about a month ago so swapped it over.

Goes here, right at the front of the engine:

The test is to see if you can blow through it, if yes then its stuck open.

The control was the new one, no air could pass, but I could easily blow straight through the old one. The car had been sitting for a few days as well.

Will bleed it properly and take it for a test drive tomorrow.

Is this in the era of BMW and the temperature gauge is no more than a broad range happy meter?

Posted

Yes the guage is centralised and entirely linear from about 78c to 100 or so. Your E46 is the same.

So it goes from 'thermostat stuck open' to 'oh shit'.

This was running at 76ish and the guage was a touch below half which isn't right.

Is the gauge/sender ok?

Went to a new place today:

He said they are very pale.

I think its the lights from a Supercharged model which it came with that are faded. I have the originals, some new bulbs and we should be good to go.

For a 21 year old Land Rover, that's bloody good going, happy with that.

The test fee is also only £40.

Just been out to the garage and the originals have bulbs fitted so I'm just going to swap out the existing units and sell them (I believe they are semi- desirable?).

They are a bit ghastly anyway:

Might even make the test fee back selling the lamps!

Fitted the old lights again. They are a bit fucked but they do work. I also prefer them ten times over to the clears (anyone want them for £50 lol, theyre in decent condition but will obvs need new bulbs).

Also, every nut and bolt I or a mechanic has undone on this car has been greased by whoever was there before, even the 10 mils that hold the lights on. I'm going to presume the previous owner James so thank you for that!

I'm bringing it down to the test station again tomorrow morning hopefully for a Pass!

Because I did all the lights I now have a Pass with no advisory items.

Someone is coming for the old lights this evening so for the first time ever, I should actually be up by some money after an MOT!
