Buying & Importing a Dyane from France

Well done for taking the plunge Peter.I'm still working on the logistics of how to get to an intended purchase once in France, all I can think of is to go in a cheap car and leave it there so that I could drive my French purchase home. I'll be interested to hear about the logistics of your collection. What part of France are you heading to?

It is a place called Leudeville in the ÃŽle-de-France region which is in Northern France http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Ele-de-France_%28region%29. It does not look too far from Calais (on the map at least!!).

I am going with two friends, not sure in what yet, probably my parents Pug 206 auto or his Suburu Impreza (which would be a bit too thirsty). I would take the 1100 but my friend wouldn't fancy driving it back and it wouldn't be as comfortable for three people (and does not yet have rear seatbelts)!!

Planning to take an early ferry and get there as early as possible and have a slow drive back.

I had though about hiring a Transit type car transporter that I could take abroad, but there seem to be very few around here, the nearest I could find is in Leicester.

Quite looking forward to it but very nervous, also. I have only been abroad once before and that was by plane to Israel, have never driven on the continent. Luckily my mate has. Still I have two weeks to prepare.

Pete.

Dont be afeared, Pete. I think your gonna love the whole experience!

You'll love it, heroic and character building stuff. I've been looking at the enormous plethora of Autoshite chod on leboncoin.fr for almost 24 hours solid now. Thousands upon thousands of them. What does "CT a faire" mean, is it quite literally "CT to do", ie the MOT is still to do (it hasnt got a CT)?

I am hopefully going on the 29th of May but have just realised that I have forgot to renew my passport, so I had better do it straight away!.

I had to renew my passport this week, I sent it off on Saturday via the post office check and send thingy, They quoted me 7-10 days so that might be your easiest option.Very jealous of you though going on the trip, I've been talking about doing something similar to Mrs Trigger.Keep us up to date with the progress!

Aye. Do report back! I can see this website turing into l'autoshite at this rate! Mr Bol finds the Franco-tat for us all to buy!

Hi,

Thanks all for your encouragement. Have made an appointment to get a passport fast tracked.

I have just been sent some pictures of it:

It was owned by the vendors father and has done 110,000 km's.

Apparently it has been garaged all its life and the main problem is just the tatty painwork, apparently it drives. Not sure why one of the reversing lights has been painted out. Think I may have to come back with a couple of spare panels though!!

Not at all. He has advertised it at 500 euros which I believe is currently £425 (ish). He says price is not a motivation though, he would rather see the car go to a good home, so I think he may be flexible on the price!Pete.

Sounds like a bargin, can't wait to see how this works out for you. I'm think Mr. Bickle might be able to help you with any missing trim bits after he and Regie stripped that dead 14 a couple of months back...

Yep-plenty of stuff. Shout if you need stuff.Mine is now a pretty reliable runner- down to 2nd in queue for arse-end welding.Wont be long....

He's also useful for unrelated purchases -persuading French sellers that you are indeed serious. Worked recently for me with an early Strada purchase.

Are you in receipt of this yet Nigel? :D:?:

thankfully from your description I can see that you were sensible & weren't tempted to cough up £2000!

Well, I can account for at least 4 of them...

"CT OK EN 2007"Presume this means it expired in 2007.In at least one advert I've seen a date next to CT which meant is started on that date, not expired. And they last for 5 years!? Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread a bit, maybe I should start a seperate one

I think they last for two years?

Excellent, do you have any pictures?

It does look nice but there are good condition ones on Leboncoin for half that, the one I will be having is quite scruffy and has the obligatory bash in the door. I think he making much of the "rarity of them". There are about 30 or 40 on Leboncoin atm, rather more Allegros you would find for sale in this country at any one time!

That gold one was probably purchased for about 1/25th of that asking price, here's its original advert from last autumn! It was in the same area as your white one Pete.http://vente-collection.mes-occasions.c ... 70187.html

Yes but I'll have to have a dig through when I get home. Only 1 is mine though

I take it that is for sale nationally at any one time? This website suggests that you can expect to see a lot less for sale nationally at any one time & this site hasn't been updated for at least 5yrshttp://ptikem.free.fr/ads.htmMaybe as time goes on they start to creep out of the woodwork...?!also in the photos section of that site, you can find one of the other UK cars that hopefully stills lives on somewhere on these shores;A ltd edition Regencyhttp://ptikem.free.fr/14MCRega.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14MCRegb.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14MCRegc.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14MCRegd.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14MCRege.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14MCRegf.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14MCRegg.jpgthis one is on there as belonging to someone else but it now belongs to someone I'm in touch with called Mark who was carrying out a restoration on it. Not that it seemed to need one;http://ptikem.free.fr/14Stephen.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14Stephen2.jpgThe French version of the site is updated more regularly, although still not often. The photo section contains more items of interest;http://ptikem.free.fr/photos.htmsuch as Mr Renault 18's cars;http://ptikem.free.fr/18rbia.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/18rbib.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/18rbic.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/18rbid.jpgand my very own car;http://ptikem.free.fr/14rida.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14ridb.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14ridc.jpghttp://ptikem.free.fr/14ridd.jpg

and my very own car;

That is very nice, and an early one at that. We had a 'T' reg with ended up being scrapped at 8 years on old, it was totally rotten! :(

Can't believe that, he's used the same pictures!

You would think he had got the message by now though, that no-one is likely to pay 2000 euros for it!

Well, I've gone and got one!

Since creating this thread I've enquired about a £200 beige Dyane on Ebay that was unused since 2006 and needed some welding underneath/bulkhead and screen frame - I decided it was too rusty but it looked good, think it sold for £200. I sent a couple of emails to sellers in France via Leboncoin but had no replies.

Another on Ebay, unused for years, at a 2CV specialist has a price of £450, when I asked how much it would be MOT'ed and made mechanically sound but still tatty looking the seller said £3000.

Today I went to join the London to Brighton 2CVers in the park at Brighton, a Citroen specialist on a stall had a MOTed Dyane for £325, a trip to his home revealed a very, very rusty example with bald tyres.

I called back to the park to let him know what I thought just as everyone was clearing out.

Then I noticed a new arrival among the remaining cars.....each side displaying a "For Sale" sign in the window. I looked around it along with several other people who seemed interested, a front wing has a hole in it but the rest of the car seemed solid with its original blue paint and chassis, a downside was a 2CV engine fitted which lacks the Dyanes relative power but it had T&T.

I called the mobile number displayed, the owner came over, he's had it five years and been all over Britain in it to his acting roles but now has a C1. A deal was struck and I collect it in a week! Typically, a very nice '72 Dyane was put on Ebay while I was out today but its start price is three times costlier than my purchase. Anyway, here's my car. Thanks again to all those that have offered advice on and via this thread.

Good work! One always comes up in the end when you least expect it!.

I saw a old boy coming out of the primary school up the road on Friday in a tatty W plate Dyane with tattoo graphics on the side, Wish i got a photo of it.

Thats lovely, glad you have found what you wanted. well done.
