☹️conformation this morning that the Safrane will be written off. The insurance company are calling me back on Monday to discuss an offer. They say because there are so few of them around they have no idea of what it’s worth. Let’s see 🤷‍♂️

Here’s the problem. In France they still command decent money, £1500+ easily in most cases that I have found. Here the only 2 I have found that sold recently went for £1000, both had much less mileage than mine and were both the 2.5 which is the better* car/ engine 🤷‍♂️

As a minimum, you want the car and a grand. You could try 1500 and the car.

Is there an obligation to accept the car as a write off? Surely a payout to make you "go away" is all that actually needs to happen?

I'd be very reluctant to accept it being written off for a measly payout, not to mention the impact on future premiums.

It’s not my insurance company writing it off, it’s the guilty party’s. He did mention a possibility of payment in lieu? It depends on the final assessor. Whatever happens he said they will not be repairing the car.

We’d be interested, if you decide to bin it off.

Possibly the end of my Safrane. Some c*nt ran into the back of me on my way to work. He has admitted fault. But the wing bumper and rear lights are damaged. Pretty sure the lights are unobtainable. Even if everything can be found and replaced good luck matching the paint after 27 years. Gutted isn’t the word. IMG_1930.jpeg.187df12dbf5d6f16bf9bbcb282c36dd6.jpeg

Not had chance to read your other replies but if you can keep the car or get it back I have a spare rear light you can have.

Just spotted this thread.

I had a 2.5 Exec about 15 years ago. Greenish colour. R747TLX.

It was pretty low mileage and about as clean as you'll ever see one.

I didn't rate it much. It was comfy on the motorway, fairly smooth and quiet but not quick. It liked to drink a bit.

Sold mine to a geezer from Leicester who was mega-excited about it.

My Smax goes,  handles and rides better but I suspect that's to do with active suspension and a turbo five pot rather than the NA job in the Safrane.
