Quick MOT and reg plates question

SEAT is in for MOT tomorrow. The number plates are standard UK post 2001 font but don't have a BS number or postcode of who made them (they were purchased as show plates as I wanted the business web address on them rather than Arnold Clark but look exactly the same otherwise). Will I be ok leaving them on or am I better off sticking the original plates back on? Don't want to get a fail for such a minor matter. Thanks!

If you've got the original plates and you're worried then who not just take them with?

Suppose I could just sling them in the boot...

I was going to say, if they are a standard font and in decent nick, I can't see how they could fail them. I bet they don't even give it a second look

Can a car pass the MOT with wanky font numberplates?

If you mean Italics or letters not of the same width throughout then yes they should fail.Also:-characters which are obviously not the correct height, character width, stroke width, not of equal width along their entire length or incorrectly spaced;a character not correctly formed, sloping, or likely to be misread;any feature that has the effect of changing the appearance or legibility of any of the characters, so that the true identity of the vehicle is less easily established; characters formed using a font which is not substantially similar to the prescribed font e. characters formed using broken or multiple strokes

Thanks for the advice. On that basis I'll leave them as they are.

I nearly got 3 points from an overzealous PO for having my number plate in ... wait for it ... comic sans!I had just bought the car and was driving it home.

I'd have given you a 12 month ban for that

Shouldnt that be dealt with via a 40 quid fixed penalty or something? Bit OTT of he tried to give you points!

I've passed an MOT with a rear plate half-obscured by overspray. And nearly every car I've had has had numerous cracks & splits in the front plate, doesn't seem to bother them though?

I'll just add the plates were on the car when I bought it, I was driving it home from Stevenage that night. ;) Think it was 30 quid fine actually, not points. I also had foglights on (I didn't even know they were on). He let me off as I worked in a police station at the time. :)

As long as the crack/split doesnt obscure the number/letter its fine. With regard to the Seat question it would take a fine eyed cop or MOT person to notice that.
