Right..My 1980 Subaru 1600 has an annoying habit of severe Missing/bunny hopping when accelerating from a standstill to turn right,at junctions and roundabouts particularly and also when accelerating from standstill uphill and then only until 2nd gear is selected and then it runs normally....On the move (say 50 mph) on right hand bends, hesitation is noticeable but it depends on the sharpness of the bend as to how bad it gets.....On the move uphill gradients appear to be unaffected  Ive replaced cap, leads, rotor arm,plugs,condenser,points..The carbs been off, cleaned, new gaskets etc and replaced and also new fuel filter and the lines blown through....It might be something simple,it might not.Its getting dangerous now though as its taking a lot of effort to cross the road on leaving junctions and would like it sorted before i get sideswiped :? ...ideas on a postcard anyone? worth a try :D

Coil? I think Im right in saying coils are full of oil to protect the innards. I've heard of them leaking if mounted horizontally rather than vertically. Maybe the right hand bend is cuasing an arc of some decription? Could be something to check. Very strange symptoms through...

Goin to try the coil tomorow along with an electronic ign dizzy setup from a pickup...if it fits....The only carbs ive got are from pickups, but being an 1800 they have a different mounting plate on the inlet manifold so thought about changing that too but theres a 1cm difference in length due to the 1800 having a longer bore so that idea went out the window...Only option i have with the carb now if any is to get one of these weber carb conversions from the states but ive heard bad things about them being a nightmare to set up and also that the provided mounting plate has to be modified to fitAlso thought about today was the transplant of an 1800 engine but the bellhousing and mounting bolts are totally different so again no goodIts not been a good day :(

Perhaps the battery is leaning over, and pulling on a cable, giving an intermittent live or earth?

My mums old VW Polo suffered from this for ages (she wouldn't let me fix it as that normally meant I had to road test it...), replaced the coil, still did it, rotor arm, dizzy cap, plugs, rebuilt the carb, cleaned the tank out, checked everything..There was a tiny little wire going into the distributor , certain every day driving conditions would make the wire break internally, which cut the ignition.. but lifting off the gas, or the natural torque reaction from the engine in a lot of cases would remake the contact. I somehow found it after 5 minutes, lucky guess, but everything else had been replaced in the hunt...So my advice would be to check the basics before you replace everything. Wiggle stuff.
