pandamonium Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 What is it with main dealers?!Just had my wife's Daewoo Tacuma in for a service and it was still running badly afterwards.I checked the plugs and they were filthy, but checked the service sheet and it said they were inspected and were found to be satisfactory.Hmmm. Tell me what you think?I think I've found the problem!
outlaw118 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I'd e-mail them with this photos and then "await your comments"....Was it Toomey's perchance?
transfer Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 the one on the left looks clean, someone has reduced the gap to zero on the right. Doubt the engine would be firing well on that cylinder.
shite_meister Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 You need to get on the blower and go ape shit at the service manager, some numpty mechanic is half asleep and needs a kick up the arse or they've got a 12 year old on the job-what else have they not done properly? that is piss poor and you might even get something out of it, fuck it mention the local rag and they'll wake up then, insist that their head technician goes over it again with you whilst you wait.Make a complaint to Chevrolet UK.I had the missus 106 serviced by a mechanic I know, the door was still creaking like buggery so I asked if he'd lubed the hinges, "I didn't know you wanted them done" came the reply christ if I wanted the oil and filter changed I would've done that myself in fact next time I will.
Station Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I'd complain in person. That's unacceptable, and it's not like they're easy to bend anyway.
VWPowered Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 in person saying your going to forward a complaint to head office/trading standards/lcal press if not sorted out, copy your service sheet and photos etc ready
myglaren Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I'd complain in person. That's unacceptable, and it's not like they're easy to bend anyway.Easy if you drop them, which is probably what happened.Off with their heads!
Albert Ross Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 It obviously appeared serviceable when removed, but dropping it back into the hole it bent the electrode. Easy mistake, but it should have been rectified at the mechanic's expense/time allowance. As any fule kno, that's what you do.
r.welfare Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I would have thought it would have idled like a stuck pig with one of the plugs like that - when I changed the plugs on my wife's car a few months ago, I foolishly forgot to check the gaps and one was completely closed. When I switched it on the engine nearly bucked it's way out of the car!Personally Pandamonium I'd be giving them some grief, then taking it elsewhere in future. Or - better still - investing in a £40 code reader and doing basic servicing yourself.
pandamonium Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 Well, I've just found out that the engine is apparently the same as a Mk2 Cavalier! Should mean servicing etc isn't as scary as first thought.
messerschmitt owner Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I service my smart myself and it's a highly stressed turbo engine pushing out 165bhp a litre - which is supercar territory (except the engine is a 0.7l with 115bhp).Modern engines are exactly the same as old engines, just, in theory, better built with a few leccie bits that don't go wrong very often. I have reset six codes in my car in 50,000 miles of me servicing it every 7 thou.
pogweasel Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Well, I've just found out that the engine is apparently the same as a Mk2 Cavalier! Should mean servicing etc isn't as scary as first thought. That is good news. Those 'Family II' engines are incredibly robust and very easy to work on. And of course means you can 'upgrade' to loads of more powerful variants. While the Daewoo Tacuma is one of the least visually appealing vehicles ever made, the idea of one with a C20XE/LET is very entertaining. That would be one fricking ace sleeper.
