Car Tax Sorn query, easy for you chaps...

I need to tax my escort, currently on SORN, w.e.f. 1st April, as I've just SORN'ed the Volvo w.e.f. 1/4/10.It's now 27th march, and the Doovla site is still attempting to sell me a tax disc effective 1st March.Anyone know when I can get a disc from 1st April?Cheers!!

It does, but only if your car's currently taxed.

You can get the 1 April tax now, at the post office, as dollywobbler said. Whenever I have taxed late in the month, they always ask me if I want it for the month I am buying it in or to start the first of the following month.

its most annoying that the DVLA do that.. you can't apply until the day the tax starts, meaning you then have to run around risking a fine for not displaying until the disc arrives in the post . Surely it would make sense to be able to apply even 2 days beforehand? Not much chance of you then getting even.. oooh a whole free day.BUNCH OF MISERABLE BASTARDS.

The tax disc-system seems very strange too me. We pay our road-tax once every year, the price depends on how much horsepower your car has. That´s what the insurance is based on too.

I found this out last year. When I went to the post office I was turned away and told I had to come back at the very earliest on the day before the 1st.They just can't bear to think of you getting a few free days!

The leaflet that comes with the reminder says you have 5 days grace now, to allow for it coming through the post.

You only get the 5 days grace if your car was taxed up to the end of the previous month anyway, and if you apply for the disc before the 1st of the month in which you want it to start. Since you cant do that with a car thats on SORN, you still get huckled.
