There is one vehicle tax rate for light goods vehicles registered on or after 1 March 2001 and one discounted rate for vans that met Euro 4 emissions standards before these became mandatory. From 1 January 2009, diesel vans that meet Euro 5 emissions standards and are first registered between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2010 have also been eligible for the reduced rate of vehicle tax.The following rates will apply to light goods vehicles from April 2010:Tax Class 2010 – 11 Rate Light goods vehicles £200 Euro 4 & 5 LGV £125

Thanks for that i never keep up to date on what is going on untill the reminders come through  this is the only information i can find on comercials but mine is on a 2000 and its £185 :?

I was wondering about this, the Bluebird needs tax from the 1st April so do I get it tomorrow at £105 for 6 months or gamble on it not going up and get some next week?

Posted

Well it's says "from April" so I assume that's the 1st. So anything registered before 2001 will be either 125 for smaller engines and 205 for anything else.If you tax it this week I'm not sure but think it will still be at the new rate as the new disc will be from the 1st.

Ah, but mine is a pre 2001 car so it's either below £1549cc at £125 a year or over at £205 a year.So as long as they don't decide to change that again tomorrow (which I guess they shouldn't?) I'll be fine to leave the money it my account for another week.

don't fool yourself....VED will go up and I reckon they will split it into 3 catagoriesFuel will go upFags, booze, etc"Rich" people will get taxed moreThe "poor" will get about 0.0017p increase in income.oh and the goverment will get another wage rise before putting another freeze on wages

Deep joy.Anyone know how much it'll cost to tax a 2001 2.0 litre petrol car please?

The taxation to take effect from the 2010 financial year was decided back in May 2009, I'd be surprised if they have time to do anything with it with about a week's notice. They might decide to do something with it for 2011 or something though.I really wouldn't worry too much about them doing anything with the pre-2001 rates to be honest, I seem to recall that vehicles in this tax class don't make up a big proportion of what's on the road (and is decreasing year-on-year), plus it is generally perceived that people in this class are likely to be hard off so it'd be a very easy way of causing MEDIA OUTRAGE etc. What did they do last time, stick a fiver on the higher rate? Might go up slightly but I doubt there'll be any dramatic changes.

alternatively buy a private HGV - £165 to tax for a year.

Or a pre 2000 15 seat minibus, that's £165 too. Our Mk2 LWB crewbus is less than our SWB (12 seats) yet they have the same engine. Also it's congestion charge exempt and you can legitimately use bus lanes!

Agreed. Slight increase in VED, fuel will go up but not by a massive amount, beer and fags will go up 'cos thats what always happens. They won't do anything too harsh yet though. Won't want to rock the boat ahead of the election.

According to the parkers website > 1549cc remains unchanged at £68.75 for 6 months and £125 for 12 months where as for a 1549cc > it will become £112.75 for 6 months and £205 for 12 months, An increase of £15. Deep joy.

Oh great, and the reason for that is???Not only that but that now means you pay a premium of over £20 just because you can't afford to buy a years worth at once. The government helping the working classes yet again.

Ah yes, thats because we apparently live in a classless society. And if theres anything you can't afford you can just approach your friendly bank (which you partly own) and get a loan to pay for it. I bloody hate New Labour.

In all fairnessI doubt that any of the main parties will be any different as it is now a standard tax to pay for other fuck ups. it could be worse the liberals or the greens could get in...............then we really would return to the dark ages

They should go back to having three month tax discs I reckon. Surely it would persaude some of those on low incomes to have tax then?

It just really gets on my tits as I hardly use my cars and have to pay through the nose just to keep them 'in use' For instance, since last september I hae done a grand total of 755 miles in my Mondeo and 400 of that was a trip to my mum and dads and back. I can't not tax it in case the bluebird won't start or something. The Escort is the same, 900 miles last year for £190 - I'm such a problem for the environment aren't I!!

Posted

It's the same for my old BMW, only done about 900 miles in the last year in it but still have to pay full whack road tax on it. :x It's about time they either taxed us on the mileage we done or at least on put us in line with Ireland had have a rolling 25 year tax exemption, If not free than largely discounted. This is turning into another GOM thread!

Yeah I would go with that. I know it existed, but when did they stop doing it, cos I don't ever remember being able to buy it.

they can buy stamps at the post office at a quid a go! They put them on a card and hand it back when its time to get tax disc. Many of those who don't have tax, don't have insurance or MoT either - I'm happy their cars get confiscated and scrapped!
