£200 is what I would give. It's been said here before, but there's a lot of work in that. All the bushes \ flexies, tyres, discs, pads etc etc will need replacing. And then the exhaust will fall off, I bet you any amount, simply because of the time it's been sat there gathering condensation. You could get it back on the road relatively cheaply if you were canny with eBay and the scrapyards, but that might take a while. If you really want a 205 GTI, the lads across from my unit are daft about them and I'm certain they could get you a runner with a bit of ticket for that.Hell, even SCTSH_ANDY could find you one, although he prefers 309 GTIs. Do you want me to have a word?

Rear beam will almost certainly be seized too. These things are worth every penny when they are going as they are an absolute hoot to hoon around corners (watch it lifting off the throttle round corners though). I won a 1.9 on e-bay last year for £600. Seemed like a bit of a steal. However on contacting the seller, shock of shocks his wife 'had crashed it on the way back from the shops 15 mins before the action ended'. Tit. Put a fucking reserve on it.I agree, if you can find a half decent one that you can run for about £1,200 you are better buying it as you could lose a large chunk of your income trying to get this heap sorted. If its so easy why does he not do it?

I did have a good look underneath and the exhaust is rusty but not holed (yet) - tyres seem decent but then they could be hiding a multitude of sins. Parcel shelf was missing, along with a couple of trim bits and bobs. It's definitely not worth what he is asking for it, I think that's plain to see now.Like I said before, I'm only after a cheap one as a fixer-upper to keep me busy over the summer sort-of-thing. I don't have access to an A-frame or any towing equipment whatsoever (I don't think a bit of rope is adequate) so I'm stuffed if it's a long distance thing. The garage where the 205 was is about 20 miles from mine so I was gonna buy a towing straight-bar and risk it home on the back of the old man's Mazda.I need to sell my Clio to fund this before anything really! If you could have a word with the lads Wat, that would be appreciated.HillmanImp - I did actually push the back of the car down and it didn't move, if you know what I mean. Is that good?Yeah, same thing happened to me on the Bay of E back in 2003. Won an M-plate Escort 1.4 for £595. Guy had it up for £1200 or something. Guy said he'd deliver it on a Wednesday. Waited all day Wednesday - didn't turn up. Rang the guy and he said it had developed a crack in the cylinder head... so I wrote on his feedback that he was a lying [email protected] got reported

Old tyres with lots of tread are a false economy mate. And shit scary in the wet.

Yeah I wouldn't particularly like to be rolling on those tyres if I can help it. It only takes one large crack in the sidewall and that's yer lot.Ahhhh, the whole situation is getting me down now. Why can't some people just start living in the real world. Christ, if it was me selling it then I would be happy for it to go to someone who would put her back on the road again rather than leave it to dissolve.

Most people aren't you. Sorry like.

Hey man, dont let it get you down! its just a 205 which is a bit pricey, if you just gritted your teeth and bought it you might have overpaid by £200 or so compared to a 'basket' of other ropey 205's off ebay, but even thats not a massive catastrophe is it if you like it and you can get it home easily. Maybe you should let him get the engine going again then wave £350 under his nose and see what happens.

not sure about his priceing but he may well get his asking price for it,last year i bought a 1600cc gti with sunroof for the grand sum off £50 because it needed a clutch, i drove it home on the dregs off tax and a few months moty, then i checked it over and she was a clean old motor but after reflecting on my purchase i decided to shove the old gal on,t bay and the bidding went wild in the last few seconds, the guy came up had a look around it and checked it was the original gearbox then handed me £713.23 without even starting it up, so at a guess they must have some value or scene tax that we mabe we dont know about

Bloody 'ell! Jammy git! They are supposedly GR37 for rallying which is what a lot of them have been turned into. Lots on the bay of E at the moment.I'll take your advice Bol and offer him summat similar if I still feel the same in a couple of weeks from now.Slightly O/T but I tried to tax my Fiesta to get her back into daily mode and the stupid bint at the Post Orifice said that because my certificate was printed off at home (I am insured with Iggy Pop), then it's unacceptable. I tried to explain that just three weeks ago I taxed my Clio with the same style home print-off but she wasn't having any of it.She was a right snotty bitch to me, so I guess she isn't having any of it. Have complained to the P.O for her rudeness - she was only a young bint so I presume she was pissed off at the prospect of working on a Saturday when she could have been up Prince of Wales Road getting shit-faced in Mercy nightclub and vomiting into her handbag, walking around with no shoes on, fornicating with young gentlemen etc, etc.......and then takes it all out on me. Thanks darling. Love you millions.

The sprint / track day / rally boys love the 1.6 GTi gearbox, if you fit it to a 1.9 you get mental acceleration..

With the sporting 205s its just a simple question of supply and demand.....there arent that many original really nice ones around.....the rally boys are still picking up decent ones....and the really mint ones are fetching top bucks...the car is a genuine modern classic....i mean whod have thought even ten years ago that people be shelling out a couple of grand for a moderately rotten escort mk2 shell. Id agree that the car in that state is worth around 350quid, but the advantage with that is that you can do all the jobs that need doing on 205s that havent been done on a 1500 pound example ie rear beam recon, brake pipes ,bushes valve guides airflowmeter etc, which really make the difference. Worn out 205 GTIS just with a ticket slapped on them which are the norm nowadays does them no justice at all .If youve got te time and it looks pretty straight give it concideration plus its a phase 1and a half - so the interior is more durable than th e earlier and later cars.

Cheers for that, well I'm gonna make him an offer on it in a couple of weeks for sure. I've definitely got the time to do it up as well
