Hey guys,

Went and viewed this today.....

Spoke to the guy in charge (who strangely looked not too dissimilar to Tricky Dicky from EastEnders...) - gave me the keys for a look around it.

Bonnet needs replacing as it's gone rusty underneath in one corner, throttle body was off and lying in the passenger seat (?)...despite it's appearance here it's actually quite solid all round apart from a bit of bubbling on one arch at the back. Has done 161k but has been off the road since 2004 and not started in two years (eek...)

What shocked me was how much he wants for it......

....£500!!!!!!

Now am I perfectly right in thinking that the guy has lost his marbles or is that a good price for one of these? He says it's pretty much good to go back on the road with minimal outlay but that could all well be crap.

What do you guys think about it? Too much money for one of these in it's current state? I'm the world's worst bargainer/barterer and the thought fills me with dread asking to knock some money off. Very unsure what to do :?

£250, absolute tops. There's £500 of parts in it and no mistake, but you've got to go to the hassle of getting them off. If you want one of these, really look to the ones making 4 figures (but not the crazy pistonheads £4000 jobs!), for a nice ready to use one, unless you really really want a project.

Cheers pog, thought he was asking too much for it. Yeah the idea was to have it as a project car, something to keep me entertained over the summer really.Just shows how deluded people are sometimes!

Seems a lot to me, I bet if he eBayd if he'd get about 250 at the absolute most, if the TB is off you've got to assume the engine is goosed havent you. Non runner and all that.

I see its surrounded by other old Pugs, is the guy a specialist? if so he probably sees pound signs on all the parts attached to it, whereas you're seeing a complete car that needs loads of fettling before you can get any use out of it.

Posted

Very true. He did say though that if I popped back next week then he would get it running but still, at that price...not really worth my while. I could most probably buy a running ropey one for the same amount!Yeah it is a Pug specialist and I wouldn't be too surprised if he thinks that way either. All I wanted to do was to give it another chance on the road...always something/someone to bugger my plans up!

£250 maybe £300 if your desperate for it, must be others out there for the 500 quid mark in better condition

I have to disagree, I think £500 is about right for what is a rising star. It's not very tidy but looks original and unmolested, I would buy it and be confident I could easily recover the money later. In fact I may just do that if you don't want it...

Way too much, I bought an MOT'd/taxed 1.9 for 600 a few years ago, as an example. Let him keep it in his field for eternity and get a decent-er one for 500 quid.

I don't think £400 would too far off the mark if it runs well and is solid. It's getting hard to find cheap 205 GTis.Having said that, I bought a tidy one 15 years ago for £750 so they'll obviously never be worth any more than that ;)

Some clown here is trying to sell one for £4500! I'd really like one but not at that price. Is he a Pug specialist? he could've at least power-washed it! if you want it why not try waving the readies in front of him like £300-350 and walk away if he says no, can't see that flying off the pitch in a hurry.

He says it's pretty much good to go back on the road with minimal outlay but that could all well be crap.

Is he likely to guarantee that? is he balls, its been stood for years so its probably going to need a brake overhaul, a service and a set of tyres as they'll either be cracked or have massive flat spots...or both.

I'm afraid that this is where you need to grow a pair of balls to negotiate if you want the car, look at it, its covered in green shit and like I've said it will need some coin spunking on it to re-comission it let alone repairing whatever fault it has and MOTing and taxing it. Be clear and confident, pull out the cash and tell him that thats your offer, if he says no then walk away..it will still be there next week.

Decent, unmolested 205 GTis are starting to become valuable and that would probably make a decent car with enough time / money thrown at it. But £500 seems too much considering how long it's been off the road. You'd probably end up having fairly extensive open wallet surgery before it gets another MOT. Depends how happy you are that you can do whatever needs to be done yourself. I'd agree with the majority and say about £250ish seems more like it.

Also note: cars with sunroofs fetch much less than ones without. Sunroof = not GR8 4 circuit racing.

Hmm, I do not suffer scorched bonce as badly as I suspect you do....

GR12 for toasting your scalp on sunny days though!

When I was a Twingo owner, I drove a couple of hours down south on some pleasant A roads with the fabric roof open, wind in my erm, 'hair'.Didn't realise that I had turned into some sort of beetroot headed freak until later. Don't like cars with sunroofs so much these days...

Is that why you are called Mr. Lobster? Well I'll give it a couple of weeks and nip back up there. Will get some readies out on display of course to sweeten him up a bit. :wink:Just need to get shot of my Renno now as I'm keeping the Fiesta I have as the daily. Anybody want a good 1.9 Dizzler Clio with tax and M.o.T?

It's at this place, which I saw a few weeks ago in Suffolk:

That's been moved to the front - I glanced at it earlier, seems to be a partial resto job on that. Not sure how much he wants for it. I imagine £482727484992837 and Noel Edmonds' pubes....
