Off to the weighbridge!

Copped this on the M25 near heathrow today, not sure what it is, does kind of look like someones taken an old Sherpa rolling chassis and some Farina panels and then set about it, in the dark with hammers and paraffin fuelled blowlamps, and churned out the offensive mess.

The MGB has obviously been praying for a bit of divine intervention to save itself...it's going to need it! :o

There used to ba yard you could see from the M25 near Heathrow that was all MGs, it was by or in the Richardson's roofing place, thinks its long gone now though.

This is one of those moments when Autoshite needs a 'like' button.

It's not tartan red so I quite like that when it's grubby  I'll hand in my Autoshite membership card, shall I?

The Austin Cambridge DHC is an elegant looking car, I like the look of them too.Shame so many have wire wheels, which look ridiculous on most cars. MGBs look a lot better on rostyles. Why not go the whole hog and put wooden spoked wheels on your classic car?

Not my cup of tea at all and during the 'B' boom years I liked them even less - but that still looks a sad sight to me.

Any particular reason why we're concluding that it is being weighed in?A mechanic I use has obtained a GT and it looks a bit worse than that (wings off as well), but he doesn't have any plans other than to fix it up.

agreed Hirst, surely any tax-free(?) B roadster with wires would be worth more as a spares car or resto than as scrap. Doesn't look too bad either, inner wings look totally solid...

It probably hasn't been scrapped, and if it has then I reckon the dealer will try and sell it on as it's worth more than £140 scrap metal.

I reckon Hirst is right, even if it was a scrap collection, if the owner signed it over its probably heading for ebay. Looks like a scrapper's truck but even so they will move cars if asked. I think if it was going straight to the knackers the load straps would be across the car (its easier and quicker)

I reckon the most likely situation is that someone was attempting to restore it, got bored and then advertised it as a project somewhere. Someone then paid up and arranged for it to be delivered via transporter due to its obvious non-driver state, the front end was chucked inside it for safe-keeping and the whole lot is now in someone's garage.

It probably never ended up in the hands of any scrap man as things like that rarely seem to - it's a chromed-up old convertible, to the world at large it's about as obvious a classic car as can possibly be imagined. For it to get weighed in, every single person involved in its trip to the weighbridge would need to be completely brainless as to its value - the person getting rid of it, the recovery truck driver and the scrap man. Not to mention any nosey people who spot it along the way. Things like this have too many opportunities to get saved.

I dont care if it rains or freezes cos I got a plastic Jesus..........

Obscured by the wiper blade is a big strap, so probably strapped down fore and aft, I believe the nearest weighbridge would be in Slough, if so this pile of flatcap fappery fodder was heading away from it, maybe going to the MG guy in St. Albans.I know an old boy who was given a roadster a few years ago, he used it for a while, most times I saw it there would be a bale of hay or straw poking out the boot.
