Nothing to a man of your calibre Al,not sure on the tyre thing you asked though we only used michelins when I was rallying, will the Toyota be at Imp National?

don't know, the toyota will be on the road soon but it will be at the wicked welsh weekend tho.

the car is surprisingly sound, no rust anywhere on the chassis -some bubbling on one or two arches and some bubbling on the corners of the rear window and on the inside lip of the bonnet, been waxoiled from new.

if it was a rustbucket i would have left it there. i haven't seen the notchback celica for years, and yes i am on the lookout for some toyota alloys.

Am I looking at the same car?

Oh and hello from Uskmouth - I'm currently staying in Newport!

I might be a bit far away for you but I've got this set of RA61 wheels as came fitted to one of my Sunchasers. I think I've still got the centres as well but would need to have a good look. Tyres are on them but unknown quantity since they've been stood about 8 years. Thinking about £90 for these

I've also got a set of MA61 wheels (like these on my mate's RA28) Posted Image

but not quite sure I want to get rid of these but.....................I've been off work since mid-Feb with a broken leg/bust knee and 7 weeks of statuory sick pay with another 2-3 weeks at least to come means they might have to go. Again these have tyres but unknown condition. Might be persuaded around £140.

Awesome stuff. I fancied one of these for a while before I got my S12 and had a look at a couple of hatchbacks but lol teh rusts put me right off.

i have had time today to do some work while struggling with a hangover.

i have done the drivers side rear window corner and seam sealed all the welds, i cut off an old sill repair and fabricated a new section and welded it in.

window before and after.

and the sill that is not yet finished

that's all for today, had enough.

Good effort, those window frame repairs always look like they'd be a ball-ache to fix.

Wowee, how'd you make that corner look so flush? Or even make up the metal to get it to fit?!

the metal is made up in sectionswelded all round and then used a flap wheel on a 5'' grinder

Well you have shamed me, There I was looking at all the rust on the Herold I just got thinking how rusty is too rusty and when do you realisticly call it a day and you do something like this  I have no idea how to weld but am gonna try and teach myself, I want a good solid runner not concourse so thank you for the insperation.I had a 75 Celica once from imported from Jersey, great car but the bonnet was the only thing holding the struts in place, I cried when that had to go. look at their values noW!!!Good luck.

if you think something is too difficult, i tend to sit down and think around it, it may be taking out another panel to get at it. replacing a panel in one piece may be too difficult so try fabricating it in a few pieces.the rear quarters on an imp are about £60 each, i fabricate mine out of about 4 pieces of steel, the husky ones are not available but i can fabricate them on the car out of about 8- 10 pieces of steel.

took the front screen out today and found more rust than i first thought, and i am thinking of calling it a day on this car as i have much too much work to do, so do you guys think i should carry on or call it a day?

here are some fotos.

Jeez, that looks horrible. Repairs around windows always give me the willies so I'd think carefully about continuing. Are there repair panels from an MG screen or something you can adapt? I only say MG because every panel is available....

Posted

Ah that must be annoying. Always a tough choice when you have done a fair bit of work on a motor already.

You still wanted wheels? Two sets for sale on Vetro Wides.

Yeah, they're mine. I'd PM'ed Aled last week with the details of these but with the further rust found I'm assuming he's having second thoughts on the project as he didn't get back to me.Anyway the MA61 wheels have now been spoken for but the RA61's are still available.Let's hope Aled continues with the car or finds a suitable new owner as Gen 3 Coupes are a rare thing now and with time are starting to look better than I used to think they did.

I seen this in the flesh today while picking up a pair of imp shockers (cheers Al) there is a lot of work to do but having seen the photo's of the rot in the rear of the car it would be such a shame to give up now because Aled has done a good job at the back so may as well see it through to the front,it'll be a nice car when its finished. good on you Aled!
