Not old enough to be called shite really but it is shit , anyway its my 1.6LS on a 51 plate and its playing up , when warming up its VERY jerky on acceleration and generally unpleasant to drive , its deffo getting worst as today it stalled twice at two different roundabouts , Dont want to spend any dosh if i can help it , any ideas what it could be , Fugging things got to go , I need some proper shite in my life i can fix with a hammer and duck tape , Its done less than 59K FFS

Could be the fuel pump,blocked fuel filter, or some sort of engine type sensor issue?

Idle control valve? If you can find it, try removing it and giving it a clean-out with some carb cleaner.

/\Whs. Idle Air Control Valve most likely, cleaning out throttle body could help too.However don't dismiss changing the plugs either. The only time my 1.6 16V gave me any grief was when it went a bit jerky and had flat spots. Thought I'd Bosch (arf arf) some new plugs in and it did the trick perfectly.From memory IACVs are about forty quid to buy, wouldn't know what fitting is like. Throttle body I think at back of engine sort of undfer the windscreen on the 16V Ecotec engines, iIrc engine code will be C16XEL or X16XEL.

Z16SE 8V it will be the EGR valve. Get a modified gasket from the main dealers, 5 minutes to fit, and report back.X16XE 16V, it will be related to a blocked breather pipe on the passenger side of the throttle body (The narrow bore hose goes to the rocker cover) which is all gummed up. Use a tiny drill bit to gradually clean it out, and keep the engine running whilst doing it, and use carb cleaner to soften the shit.Also on the 16V it might be sticky valves.

Got almost opposite problem with S plate 1.6LS (135k). On a cold start with outside temperature at 3C it revs its bollocks off until it warms up - any temperature either side of 3 its fine.

Had a quick poke about , breather pipe is clear , throttle body butterfly looked a bit black and gundgy so ive cleaned it , been for a real blast , didnt know it would do 90 in third , its fine once hot and didnt play up at all , idle is fine now as it was before , Thanks for your advise , We will see .
