After spending slightly over the odd's on a Mk1 Fiesta, i thought i would share my little project with you all.I say project as it only needs abit of welding here and there. It's still taxed and MOT'd but i need to get my Theory out the way and then onto the Practical driving test before i can enjoy it fully. So far i know the car needs new rear wheel bearings (Either side)and ALOT of work to get the paint work up.Abit of welding on the inside of the drivers door (It's weird how it's gone)Bumpers need removing and straightening (The previous owner tapping hitting a tree in her garden)The O/s door needs metal work (Tree again)And the bottom of the N/s door is rotten. If it is okay i will keep a little step by step guide of how things are doing.Kind of like a restoration thread, but not that drastic(If that is okay ?)Pictures will be added shortly !!

haha sorry ! It's an A reg (1983) 1.1L Economy with the wrong carb !(As i am sure the economy had tha Variable Venturie carb, and mine has a single webber. This makes the orange eco light stay on and gets on my Moobs)Colour is RED or Sun faded pink w/e you prefer !Pictures will be added ASAP (Or as soon as my laptop recognises the Camera :( )

Hopefully a 957cc 'economy', beige, 1977 Pop.

You mean an LC? Rubber mats and a pre-pop base model with black instruments!

A reg would make it one of the very last. I hope it has period plates.

I had one identical to that. Has it got the 3+E gearbox? It should have with the econolights.

As for price, i would rather not say lets just say " A little over"I just want to get it solid and clean lookingI'm not into "Yeah init lets fit a 2.0 Zetec silvertop" NO THANKS !I will hopefully have it afew years, and i'm not going to lie it can't stay 100% standard as already (Well before i brought the car) the engine has been messed with and the original mirrors are ... well completely shot. Thanks for the interest :)I will get pics going SOOON (Camera and laptop problems FTL)

Probably highly valued in Scenelandâ„¢, but surely that's the ultimate Autoshite spec job? A Mk1 Fizzy that you can hose out when you've been to Mally's scrappy in Haydock.Having said that, a 1.1L with the wrong carb isn't a bad shot for a beginner.

Yep warren 3+E I'm really annoyed about the carb' tho.I have heard the VV carbs can be troublesome, but it seems to run okay with the weber.I just need to find a way of using the Weber with the Eco Lights. Thanks pete !It's not my first car (That was a 1985 Mini City E)But due to lack of funds £0 and i mean NOTHING !It's going to be done on a budget, but i won't be compromising the work i do or anything else.Does anyone have any free undersealer or primer (PLEASE)

I'm sure the econolights work of the engine vacuum. Top save though, economy spec festers are probably rarer than XR2s now.

The VV carb was disastrous, trust me. I'm pretty sure the Eco lights are vacuum operated so check for pipes that lead to nowhere, and then have a peep by the gear linkage under the bonnet, I have a feeling there may be a switch there so it knows you're in "E" when it thinks you should be - although I may be getting confused with VW MFAs when it comes to the switch bit.For some mental reason, RS1600i Escorts had the Eco Lights, but they weren't wired up.

Christ, I've had about 20 mk1 Fiestas. Pete, can the 1300 lump be attached to a 3+E box? I know the 1300/1600 fiestas had equal length driveshafts unlike the 957/1117 versions.

Yeah i heard that the lights worked off the vacuum from the engine. There is two pipes that go to a coiled spring in a metal casing. This looks like an Auto choke to me and i believe them pipes have something to do with the Eco Lights. But because the Weber is Manual choke and a totally different Carb, there is no place to put these pipes or the automatic choke casing.(I will try get some close up pictures tomorrow. And as i speak i am uploading pictures from today into PhotoBucket)

To be honest the econolights were a bit of a gimmick. Be brave a drop a 1.8 turbo dizzler in it if you want mpg. I will say that the ultra high 4th gear is useful for motorway cruising though, I really noticed the difference.

NO !Have you not seen the insurance quotes i have had ?I'm going to be pushing it with a 1.1 to be honest, but it is achievable.Edit: Sorry that sounded nasty, i mean "NO!" in the non harsh sence

Is it a local car? Where did you get it from?

I don't know for certain, but I suspect not. I remember having to notch the chassis on a XR2 to fit a five speed, but that's about the only gearbox change I've done to a Mk1.I think fitting the 'S' spec detent spring to a 3+E box would be mildly amusing.

Get this for extra shite points !!It has a TOW BAR 8) And yeah it was local Warren, infact someone scoped it in the thread "Afew spots wirral/birkenhead"

All this Fiesta talk has reminded me that I got a picture of a povvo spec BASE one the other day. It was red too. I think Ford really nailed that design, even in 83 it didnt look that dated, compared to the Metro and other cars in that less confusing back then class.

Brammy my boyGet it up !!(The picture i mean  )Edit:Super slow progress with photobucket 20% uploaded so far

If that towbar has twin electrics I would love to see the caravan it towed! You do know that it wont like unleaded don't you? They seem to run VERY hot.

Didnt think the base one had a rear wash wipe though, although the boot could have been replaced.

Its registered as BASE though. How depressing/amazing.

Yes i'm aware of the lead suppliment i have to put in the fuelInfact that reminds me the woman who owned it before me ran it dry, so it has a petrol can full of unleaded in at the moment (Was only used to get it home, literally less than 5 minutes driving)So i will have to take a trip to Halfrauds and get some fuel addativeThanks for the reminder :)And the towbar only has single Elec' socket

I find that attractive in a hard plastic dashboard with no side vents kind of way.

Posted

Brammy what you didn't spot is that it does not have a reverse light ;)SUPER POV' SPEC !Bet it even has a foot operated washer jet pump !Edit:It looks the same colour as mine and even has the same black stripe !

Posted

Bollocks to that, retard the timing a bit and shove super unleaded in every third time you put fuel in. It'll be fine.Either that or shove the head off a mid 90's 1.1 on.

Posted

My mums old pop plus didn't have a reversing light.I hope yours has a mk2 tailgate for extra shite points!

I have the Ford models brochure from 1983 somewhere, it had all the details of the base one. You know its low when the one up boasts about such things like rear wheelarch trim.
