I'm selling my Nissan Sunny

As much as it pains me to do so, I will now have to part with my B11. I love this car and always intended it being a long term ownership but due to the mechanical maladies and lack of time to fix it, I am reluctantly offering for sale to a good home :'(

It's a 1985 1.3 GS and is bodily in extremely good condition. There are a few blebs here and there, mainly on the front wheel arch lips, base of front wings where the mudflaps are fixed and one rear wheel arch has been repaired cosmetically but really wants a new section letting in (which I have). It has had the inner rear arches patched in the boot (show me a B11 that hasn't!) but generally it's in excellent order. Under the bonnet is very clean and the interior is very nice. I'll take some more pics over the weekend. Pleanty of Bilthamber and underseal on it. These are very pleasant little cars to drive, extremely comfortable and economical and this one has a 5-speed box.

About a year ago or so it started to heat up and I suspected the head gasket had gone due to the usual mayonnaise and water in the oil. I changed it and cleaned up the head, gave it a decoke and it seemed alright after that for a while but unfortunately the oil and water have mixed again worse than before. It also developed a rattle where once was a lovely quiet engine. It's possible the head is cracked which is common on the E13 engine. It doesn't heat up but it's sluggish and as I say the fluids are well and truly running through the same channels! Personally I blame its time with the film company on the filming of "Red Riding" - at least I was adequately compensated!

My efforts to find another E13 within a reasonable distance that doesn't also need a load of recommissioning have come to nought and I haven't the time to pursue it any further. The tax runs out at he end of Feb and the MoT in March. It still drives fine of course and I've been running it every now and again to keep it free.

I've decided to cut my losses and let someone else have a go at getting it back on top form. It'll make someone a great daily if you can find another motor or maybe even use a 1.4 from a later N13 Sunny. I know it smacks of defeat but I'm not in the best position currently to solve it.

Price as it stands is £275, probably half what I'd ask if it was in full working order.

Cheers

Wow, looks mint. Wont be coming home with me though due to an experience many years ago where I borrowed one of these for a day, only for the head to shit itself on the very same day!

Normally I'd jump at the chance of a fine motor car like that at stupidly cheap money but I must confess to absolutely HATING B11's for reasons I really can't understand, I know now that I will never own one. Looks good though!

I had one of these a few years ago that only had 23k on the clock when I got it.....proceeded to do the head gasket twice in the space of as many months! Was a great car after that though, quiet, smooth and easy to drive.

I've owned loads of cars in this colour. They look like those green boiled sweets with the chocolate in the middle.

I will repeat stating my fondness for these. I had a 1.3 and 1.5 on the road years ago, but neither suffered head or gasket problems (though I wonder if the 1.3 had, as it had been fitted with a replacement engine). A core plug did go on the 1.5 which led to it overheating, but even that didn't give me any subsequent problems.I've just remembered that I supplied the wheel centres on this car to its previous owner. They came off an estate I was breaking, as normally the 1.3 just has a little centrecap.

My parents had an utter shed of a B11 estate (A457 PAS) in the mid 1990s, it never gave any trouble apart from rust issues - the rear suspension mounts collapsed, but a local welder fixed them up for pennies.

I remember being impressed by the super smooth engine - a real step up from the overhead valve Chevette and Renault 5 mk1 they had before.

I also enjoyed the Datsun By Nissan badging.

Hope you find a good home for yours Mash, it looks really tidy - it'd be a shame if it was scrapped for the sake of a replacement engine.

Don't worry, I shan't scrap it. If there are no takers then I will eventually repair it. Here are some more pics I took today after I took it for a short drive round.
