CreepingJesus Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I love the exhaust pipe extension, just hammered on up there. Here's the ex-Harry Lawson SA Strato I put up a while back, which vanished. This old grunt still earns its' keep on a farm.
Calum_B Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 TMs are buff! Ahhh Holland's Pies! They are a few miles down the road from me - used to have some top shite in their fleet when I was growin up but it all seems pretty snazzy new stuff now Another local haulage firm that stayed in the same livery for many many years was Ben Barnes & Son Transport. They pretty much exclusively had British stuff - I remember mainly Seddon Atkies. After they closed in 2000, one of the vehicles that was bought from them remained in the livery, and still does today with a local footwear company, and it is driven by a long time B Barnes employee. Very striking livery indeed! I am a big Scammell fan though, love all the Contractors and the Routemen, but even more so the earlier stuff like the Pioneers and the Explorers (the latter of which I have had the good fortune to drive, which was amazing!!)
warren t claim Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Sudden Accidents aren't the same since Iveco started pulling the strings. Another great name just brought out to grace the front of the odd bin wagon.
face Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 That looks like Saffron Walden common ^^ *Edited for twattery
Cavcraft Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Sudden Accidents aren't the same since Iveco started pulling the strings. Another great name just brought out to grace the front of the odd bin wagon. Badge engineering at it's worst like Foden/Daf. Alas that ex-Harry Lawson pictured is a prime example: it's just a bleeding Iveco with a different badge.
gearoil Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 The uber truckshite job over here, is shifting pipes around Leith docks. The units are Leylands, ERF's, Fodens, SA's and the odd Ford Cargo. What they have in common is 10L Cummins motors, and Eaton/Fuller boxes, pulling ex-RN boat trailers. My favourite was the ex-Harry Lawson's SA Strato (Daf 95 cab version); zero oil pressure, and only a few gears in the Twin Splitter until it warmed up. A pig to drive, but at least it still had all its doors and windows! Next time I'm in and they are running I'll take a couple of pics. No bumpers - taken off and replaced with steel girders, no lights just flashing beacons, plumes of blue smoke, and the same 'respray' in yellow... mechanical slow death!!
aled Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 The F88 mentioned is probably this one... It is owned by a bloke called Bob Carmichael from Warwickshire and he goes all over the country hauling timber - I pass it on the A1M near Peterborough and on the A14 quite often. He inherited it from his late boss, it's tweaked to about 320+bhp and goes like stink! i have seen that on the m4 in south wales hauling logs, made me look twice as it looked old
