My Lancia Delta Turbo 2-wheel drive trackday car aka. Satan's Biscuit Tin, died. Bottom end. Long story. Not especially interestingHowever, when I bought the car (from a very nice man in Southport) it came with a complete spare motor. Gearbox. Turbo. Everything already in place. Which was nice. But can I get anyone to whip the old one out and install the new one? Can I buggery. And I was rather looking forward to giving it a damn good seeing to once the wintery weather has abated. Does anyone know of a tradesman - preferbly in the North West of England - that may be able to do the job. Its an old Lancia for Dawkin's sake. How difficult can it be?

Yes, just a basic engine swap. Dead engine out. Live engine in complete with gearbox, turbo etc. A lovely trackday out at leafy Oulton Park with all the trimings to anyone brave enough to give it a go.

Piece of piss, Steve. I know a man who can ;) I'll speak to him in a bit.Could you get the thing to Rainford (Nr St. Helens)?

i would give a go, i'll just ask a mate if i could borrow his garage for the week. And obviously subject to if you could get the car to the location - Birkenhead.

Are you sure of the quality of the replacement unit? I would have a long look at it first before spending any money on having it fitted. Even if it isn't fucked it might be worth having a few of the "Bitch to reach when installed but a piece of piss when out of the car" parts replaced, eg cambelt.Surely a specialist Lancia bod would be happy to do the change if you were to give him the old unit to be stripped/rebuilt/bodged later F.O.C

The only Lancia specialist bod I know of in the NW is a bloke called John out by Clitheroe. Can't remember the name of his garage :(.Problem is, he's bloody expensive.

Agreed

Best of luck with what ever route you go

Would definatly have a good thing of getting the belt, water pump and other hard to reach items changed (as already mentioned)

And give it a Dulux Martini paint job, either with a roller or that handy spraying attatchment that came with that Kirby cleaner some cheap suited twat sold your wife while your at work. Not that I'm bitter about not getting a refund off those wankers or anything.....

Concur - transverse-engined Lancias are notorious for being a pain to work on with the engine in. Classic wallet-raping case in point - Beta went for rego last week, while on the hoist, discovered stuffed rear gearbox mount. Not a problem in itself, but Lancia (in its infinite wisdom) located the subframe crossmember so as to make accessing two bolts an hour-long job. Betas aren't hard to work on if you dump the subframe (engine, gearbox, front suspension), but if you want to 'save time' on smaller jobs, that's when they become a knuckle-skinning, expletive-ridden PITA.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice with this. How typically of me to piss off to Palm Desert, Calif. (as opossed to Palm Desert, Derbyshire) for a week to commune with nature just before posting. Thus leading everyone whose contributed to think of me as an 'Arse!' as J.May would say. Actually he'd probably say 'Cock!'. Thanks again.

Tony Jamieson of Hoghton Lane Garage probably would, but it all depends how far from Hoghton you are. However he would probably talk you to death on his Dolly Sprint, his A3000 and the 2.0 Mk 1 Fiesta - and as for bikes....
