Working from home today and just saw a cracking high speed chase on "Police Stop!" on ITV4. November 1990 Mk2 Transit being chased for miles on M25 by W-reg Met Range Rover and Sierra Estate + one other police car and one other police saloon I couldn't identify. Transit end ups wrapped round a lamp post on slip road.

I know that chase, it was on a police stop video I had ages ago! If im correct, thats where that audio snippet of 'HES CRASHED HES CRASHED' came from.I think one of the other police cars was an Opel Senator.

I thought it sounded familiar! All the footage in the show appears to be from 1990 & 1991 - autoshite a plenty!

He had a monster job getting that Range Rover stopped iirc. Going to have to search the tube for it now. But recall that this was a good un.

Just caught the end of one of these now actually. A black 1.3 Metro with the passenger waving a pit-bull terrier at the chasing police car. It’s just not as good nowadays, is it?

...drink whatever's left in the bottle if they screen footage of Stewart apologising about his own DIC conviction.

I'm sure ther's a Sherriff John Bunnell version of that game too!"High on meth amphetamine""Still the crazed driver races on""With no regard for other road users"etc etc

That made me laugh "Its just not as good nowadays!"Cue mental image of two old giffers in a pub fondly reminiscing about how easy it was to nick Vauxhall Belmonts back in the 1990's!

Who can forget the couple having a domestic in their Merc after being pulled over? :D I've always associated first gen Trannies with the term 'bandit vehicle' after seeing that famous motorway chase.

Well before that, the Mk1 was termed 'Britain's most wanted van' by the police almost from it's launch. The blaggers could buy or steal them, but a lot of forces had to 'wear out' whatever they had before they got the transit.

Shit trivia: I once fixed Alistair Stewart's computer. Badly. It came back with a snotty letter from him saying how he was an "international journalist" and deserved better treatment. A couple of months later he was done for drink-driving and was made to eat his own bodyweight in humble pie. I laughed my socks off.

"He's crashed, he crashed at junction 23!"

I threw my remaining video tapes away last year including Police Stop 1, 2 & 3. I think my copy of the original Police Stop was faulty in that the audio blanked out in several places.

I remember that the number plates of the cars involved were obscured by a black rectangle - during the more 'extreme' manoeuvres of the chase scenes it couldn't quite keep up and you could eventually piece together the registration!
