Station Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 The theory:"The All New Ford Flex!!" The reality: Haha, absolute shite! Talk about stealing every concept from the Range Rover and then making a dogs dinner out of it by adding the American touch.
wilko Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 yuck!I finally saw one of those BMW's everybody has been slagging off today - the one that looks like the bastard lovechild of a 3 series coupe & a budget korean hatchback sat on a landrover chassis and pimp rimz...Being driven by a bloke who looked like a complete cnut about 5 feet from my rear bumper - I think he must have a microscopic sized penis.
Albert Ross Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Hey I like the look of that Flex.............. Really! That BMW you mention has an Electron Microscope on the options list, so drivers can actually see their penis, so they CAN actually masturbate at the wheel. Even the women drivers..............
Cavcraft Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I reckon if you cut the top off a BMW Mini Clubman and glued it to the bottom half of a Range Rover you could make your own.Which would make you as mentally deranged as whoever would be fucking stupid enough to buy the Ford version above.

Pete-M Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I think it looks nice. I'd have one if they do one with a proper engine option.
Mr H Sceptre Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Think it looks like shit. So, is it available in the UK then? Also saw a BMW X6 yesterday. A hopeless looking 'car', really really poor effort. I agree with whoever it was (Clarkson?) who said it looks like a dog when it pulls itself by its front legs across the carpet when its got an itchy arse. I put an Autoshite business card on it, but I doubt the driver would see the irony.
saabhappy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Think it looks like shit.Think you're right!

fordpoplier Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 They've been around here for a while and I thought Range Rover first time I saw one but I hadn’t made the clubman connection till I saw that pic. They’re quite pickuptruck looking from the front and the grill is way too much chrome – most owners opt for chrome wheels and it its just bling overdose. Not bad for a compact tho:)
UglyAmerican Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I went on the press launch for the Flex in the States probably 2 years ago now. Looks are, well the mags would call it "polarizing"... I think it's not offensive but styling is definitely derivative. Fantastic car to drive and own in the States though. It's enormous but easy to maneuver and has a superb suspension. Big fan at the time. Also it now has an optional 350 bhp turbocharged V6, for added WTFness. They're selling only OK over here, mostly due to looks and the fact that nobody wants station wagons in general. Also they're not cheap, mostly $30,000 up to $40,000. Just to put that in perspective a BMW 328i costs $36,000 (not saying it's an alternative, just to get your US dollar price bearings). Back when I drove it I wrote a review at the time y'all are welcome to see. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2009-ford-flex-review/
Richard Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 It doesn't look particularly ugly to me, just thoroughly average.
retrogeezer Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Also it now has an optional 350 bhp turbocharged V6,That would sell well over here at £5.30p a gallon for petrol...
VWPowered Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 It doesn't look particularly ugly to me, just thoroughly average.+1 i'll let you know what its like as a car in 20 years when i can afford one
Vin Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Saw a few of these Flex when I was in Canada last year. There is a similarly styled hatchback thing called the Ford Edge. They were quite prominent too.
UglyAmerican Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Also it now has an optional 350 bhp turbocharged V6,That would sell well over here at £5.30p a gallon for petrol... Petrol's running $2.90/us sized-gal here, strictly going by exchange rate that's £1.72 per us gal. Works out to £1.43 per imperial gallon. Cheap stuff eh.Just looking at it now, the mileage rating for the Flex is 17/24, which in UK terms is 20/29. Not bad for a 5000 lb vehicle really. Though pretty shit compared to a 4-cyl mpv like an old picasso or scenic.
wilko Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 If it was £1.43 a gallon here, I'd own a 6 litre XJ12 and drive it flat out! How easy is it to emigrate?
ChinaTom Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 If it was £1.43 a gallon here, I'd own a 6 litre XJ12 and drive it flat out! I would certainly drive mine a lot more! At current Tesco prices, driving mine for 12,000 miles a year, I will part with £4,200 for fuel here in UK. Looking on the bright side though, think of all those Clubcard points!!

D'oh! multiplied the wrong direction. £1.72 per us gal is £2.06 per imperial gallon. Still not too bad.The balance to the price of petrol and low registration/tax costs is that used cars here are dramatically more expensive than in the UK. The absolute cheapest thing that works is $2000. Any American car from the 1960s is $10,000+, unless it's absolutely shagged.
