Yes, the damn things seem to congregate around me at the moment. Just had a call.'Can you prep a bus for it's MoT?' What is it? Metrobus. Another call. 'Can you do next week on BOK in Bury?' Yet another Metrobus....I suppose Metrobi could be a multi-gender person who's quite in tune with todays society... :?

Halifax Joint Committee runs a few old MBs and late (Leyland) Olympians around these neck of the woods. The MBs I believe are ex-London.

Apparently the Bowker Metrobus got sold into preservation. he's not sure who has it now, but he didn't chop it.

Out of interest, Metrobi, what engines did these Metrobuses typically have?A B reg example drove past me today and it sounded magic.

Hello. After a long time waiting I can finally introduce myself here.

Why Metrobi? Not the car but most of my time is spent playing with these:

Well that's enough from me for a bit. I hope to be able to fit in and bring a little bus shite with me!

Andy.

Hi Metrobi

I've seen this one about Brum - is it for visiting schools, colleges etc with the environmental 'message'?

TWM have still got a few Metrobuses in service haven't they?

Welcome to AS BTW

Mostly all had Gardner engines of the 6LXB variety. At 10.45 Litres they should sound quite nice! A small number of West Midland Mk1s had the Rolls Royce Eagle due to a shortage of Gardners at the time but AFAIK only one of those survives in preservation.Rolls Royce engines were also fitted to South Yorkshire Metrobuses due to the higher power output helping on the hills (200ish BHP as opposed to 170-180 BHP for the Gardner) but later ones were fitted with the turbocharged Gardner 6LXCT engine. The only other engines fitted to Metrobuses originally were the Cummins L10 (only fitted to a very small number in this country) and London Transport Fitted one experimentally with an air cooled Magitus Deutz engine. The Prototype Metrobus was also fitted with a prototype Gardner 5 cylinder turbocharged engine (5LXCT?) for a short time but that engine never reached production.Green Bus is a bus company from the West Midlands that specialises in school transport. It has a number of Metrobuses from West Midlands Travel and Reading. I do a bit of driving and spanner work for them when the rent is due. There a still a dwindling number of Metrobuses still running for WMT but their days are numbered and all will be gone very soon. Oh and thanks for the welcome!

Nothing quite like the sound of a 6LXB...takes me back to my childhood when I used to go to school on the Yorkshire Rider Olympians. :D

Looks rather sweet that! Still in Bury as I type (Metrobus with internet-cool!) and the old girl is getting a little poorly sick on the engine front. Still, only a week to go and then she can get the attention she deserves plus a heart transplant before she's out again.
