Number plate — which font? (Old number on newer car)

My 2006 Citroen C6 came with a private plate on: C6 FED. I will replace the plates as they look a bit tired. 
 

I am wondering about whether to use the larger old UK legal Charles Wright font as it is an “old” pre-2001 number, but then again it is on a “new” post-2001 car.  (2001, or whenever the law changed on the font design)

Zero fucks given about the legality, I know it supposed to have the thinner font on it. 

I’m leaning towards the old font as I’ve only ever owned old cars, but just thought I’d ask for other people’s opinions. Usually you get crucified either way on here! I’ll put it out there that I think the Serck font looks utterly wank to make sure of it too 😜

If that's the most pressing issue you have to deal with on the car lucky you! 😉

On bona fide classics such aesthetics might be of concern, on a 2006 C6 why not just keep it legal and avoid any potential hassle?*

I'd simply stay legal. There's no point attracting attention needlessly.

There are certainly a few little issues but nothing too major yet— I have been quite lucky. I’m just making a list and this is one easy thing to do.

Good points made above, thanks. Maybe not drawing attention to myself is a good idea. 
 

On this front, do we know of the people who shorten (less width, but maintaining the height of the plate) their number plates have done this legally? 
 

My reading of the rules is that the size is dictated by how much text is on the plate, plus an 11mm margin.
