My eye has just been caught by a P plate 2 litre Carisma with 118k. It's a p/ex which is fairly tidy, although with a couple of dings and a rip on the driver's seat. No history but Test till Nov and he's asking £695.Any thoughts? Thanks

Bit too dear if you ask me. Carisma's are pretty unloved, despite being a decent enough car.We got one a while back with 4 months test on it for £200 (we needed the engine for a Pinin)

Carismas are usually mega-cheap, something to do with that they flooded the fleet market with them and there wasn't the demand there afterwards. Sounds a bit pricey without looking at it.

For that price you could pick up a later one, A work mate of mine had a X plate 1.6 that he sold for £500 last year and that was pretty tidy.I'd be expecting to pay £400-£500 tops for that P plater. They aren't a bad car though, I got to drive a lot of them when they first came out and they seemed pretty o.k, I remember the gear change not being the best about but they seem well spec'ed and are quite pokey in 2.0 form.

Isn't there some common engine fault on these? Can't for the life of me remember what it is but I heard about it recently as a mate bought one and wanted some gen on them.Far too much money at £695, for that sort of money you should score something at least two years newer.

£150 - £200 max. They were crap when new. Properly dull with hideous interiors. No redeeming features other than the GDi being ok on fuel if you tickle the bloody thing everywhere. Oh, chocolate gearboxes on some of 'em, and the GDi lumps can cause utter mayhem when the injectors start misbehavin'.

Seems fair enough to me, here's the definition.

a quality inherent in a thing which inspires great enthusiasm and devotion

Pete M is spot on with his price, not long sold an X Plate 40k GDi for £995. Had the bloody thing for months at £1395 without a call. Had to toss 6 months tax in to sell the bloody thing in the end.Nothing really wrong with them, quite a few goodies and everything works as it should and does what it says on the tin but are pretty souless. Also bear in mind Mitsubishi parts are quite expensive compared to other Japanese marques due , no doubt, to their lack of popularity
