Aixam-Mega Track

Posted Image

Yes, that Aixam - Europe's largest producer of microcars, yet the Track was powered by a 6-litre Mercedes V12. The perfect urban runabout then. As far as I know, they're still not bankrupt, so they must have thought better of it, as they stopped after they'd made six!

Another photo, just for the Wuvvz plate:

4WD, and ground clearance could be wound up to 13 inches. Superb.

Nova kitcar - the shitest of the shite when it comes to kitcars, and there's LOADS of shite ones!

I couldn't quite believe my eyes the first time I saw that thing....Sitting in traffic in Wroxham IIRC  Do you know anything about it Wuvvum?I take it, it's a one off?

It's based in Wroxham so that's probably where you saw it. It was built as a one-off by the owner of one of the boatyards there. I don't know a great deal about it as I've never spoken to the owner but from poking around it in Wilcos car park it appears to be powered by a mid-mounted small-block GM V8 driving the rear wheels through an autobox, and it's got a superb home-made exhaust system.

Haha, that Keating site's brill. I'd quite happily spend loads of money on one of their products. I mean, look at the TKR spec:

Eight cyl in VMidships7L 2000 BHP

That's quite a bold claim... or just a very big mistake
Bold claims.. but supposedly true. The engine is just a GM LS* unit, there's a video of a dyno run of said engine by Nelson Racing Engines (quite a well know company), I'm sure it reaches 1900+ BHP

Looks like the bastard offspring of a Jaguar XJ220 and the Austin AR6 concept!

It's a Chevy 4.6 V8, and the bloke (a Mr Sabberton) is a boat builder and obviously used his considerable skills to create a car that looks quite decent and quality.

It does appear to be unusually well finished for a one-off special. It's nice to see a car that appears to have been genuinely designed from a blank sheet of paper too - most cars of this type are "inspired by" (read "look almost exactly like") some other exotic car. I still haven't quite decided whether I like it or not, but I do very much like the fact that it exists. :D

In other news, here is a Covini:

And this is something called a Technical Studio TS07:

Not sure if this qualifies as a supercar - it's got Peugeot Mi16 power - but I still think it's pretty cool. It was designed as a road legal track day car, and put into (limited) production, by Michel Hommell, the then editor of Echappement magazine in France. This is the Mk2 version.

And this is the Mk1.

This has got to be up there with the shitest of them:

Ford parts bin special (think some of them got same lump as Sierra Cosworth), hideously ugly and awkwardly designed, nobody bought them...

Edited for workingness...

Solo 2 was an awesome car - not pretty, granted, but the technology was so far ahead of its time it was mind-boggling. Supposed to have been the best-handling road car ever built when it first appeared.

Yes, I agree....Hope I get the chance of a closer look one day.

Bricklin SV-1....

....Always hated getting this one in Top Trumps! :D

Isn't that a DeLorean with a reworked front end?

does look a bad copy doesnt it..

Eliica

Right. That thing you see in the photo is an electric car. But unlike our little Indian electric car Maini Reva (which is quite cute alright) this one can go at around 400 kph, accelerate up to 60 mph in 4 seconds (that's faster than a Porsche 911) and touch 100 mph in 7 seconds. It is the prototype Eliica electric car, and it has eight wheels, if the speed has not freaked you out yet.

The Bricklin pre-dated the DeLorean by seven years....Guess that makes the DeLorean a GOOD copy! :D

I used to love having this during Top Trumps, the stats kicked arse 8)

Oh and what about Detomassos...

The Guara, has the looks of a failed supercar....

...as does the Qvale Mangusta... that became the MG SV

The arse of that Guara smacks of Alfa GTV. I think it looks quite nice actually, perhaps it could do with the cockpit being a mite longer.

Griffith used Vauxhall Cavalier lamps!

Haha, turned upside down!!

The Aston Martin Virage used upside down Scirocco lights too.

How about the uber rare Argyll GT? Apparently used Triumph 2500 suspension and a variety of engines.

Posted Image

I was looking through my 1980 Automobile Year Book last night, browsing for my next purchase, and I saw the Argyll in there! It was offered with a Rover V8 or a 2 litre inline 4 engine, both with Minnow Fish carbs. Didn’t the inventor of the Argyll also develop these little versions of the Reece Fish carburettors?

There's a Scirocco in your sig...

Apart from having the edges at the wrong angle. :DLove these eccentric, shite designs. They were all quite similar. Love that Detomaso.

Probably not supercar, but definitely overpriced for Porsche 928/944 territory:

Loads of magazines have their silly 'Buy a Ferrari for under 10k' articles.

I'd have one for a month, just for temporary Ferrari ownership. There's a sad 30 something poser driving around in a completely knackered one of these, I doubt the engine is still going today, it sounded absolutely terrible, probably couldn't afford maintenance costs.

When these were new they were actually cheaper than a 928. More expensive than a 944, obviously, but that had a 4-pot engine and was a lot slower. I've got a copy of Autocar & Motor somewhere from about 1989 with a group test between the Mondial, 928, 850i and XJR-S. The Jag wins, mainly by virtue of being just as fast as the others but about £15K cheaper.I wouldn't mind a late Mondial actually. Obviously I'd rather have a 412i, but I suspect the Mondial would require a smaller mortgage to run.
