Yard being cleared at Whittlesey, now with pics

Hey shiters on the edge of the Fens,I was in Whittlesey yesterday and the real pikey old overgrown scrapyard on the Kings' Dyke byway (grid ref TL 262 966 GB) looks like it is starting to be cleared. A lot of the undergrowth has gone and they've munched through a big stack of cars already, there was no-one there yesterday but a big new excavator was parked up next to some bins. Unfortunately they must have had 'unwelcome' visitors and they blocked the track (a public right of way/road) with a tree trunk and the remains of a A reg Cavalier SRi. The trunk moved with a tug from the LR and you can now get past. The place is jam-packed full of shite, a lot of it is completely fucked/crushed but there are some complete looking cars as well. There's a Austin A40 Farina half-way up a stack, a late A reg Series III Land Rover, Bedford CF, Mark 2 Transit with a Luton body, Pug 309 and loads more I can't remember. I don't know the score with the place but if anyone's interested it's got to be worth popping in and seeing what's happening, might be some hidden gemz. PIX 2 CUM L8R

I'd love a nosey round there. Shame it's so bloody far away. All of the proper scrappers have disappeared from round here.

Stretches back to another field - which is full of 70s caravans.

Didn't fancy nosing around too much, but the cars are all further in the yard, if you look on Eoogle Geath you can see them

Never even heard of this place despite travelling through whittlesey any amount of times. Looks like we are too late!!!

Dunno Fred, has a sheet over the back body and it's covered in slime. Bo1, I used to live in Whittlesey and knew about the place but the KEEP THE F OUT signs and general mad pikey air kept me away from going in! It is really easy to find, if you take the B1040 and hang a right just past the bridge and Hero of A pub, you'll see a sign on the right for a Byway and it's down there. The yard next door has been empty for months but there's some geezer in there now cutting up pickups (for export?)

I must speak to you about byway-trekking in the area Mr Scruff. Been too long since I did any off-roading...

There used to loads of little places like this around my way, but sadly nearly all gone. Did a big site clearance at a place called Brokenbury quarry in Torbay, it was some sort of dumping ground for all sorts. How does a Mk2 Cortina GT with Rostyles grab you.....hardly anything left of it I managed to save two of the wheels though. There was also the remains of something from the thirties, only the bulkhead and dash were in one piece and the astray was like new.....I love places like this. :)

Well, as they say, slime wipes off....

Go on Fred, you know you want it.... Looks like it could well hold a few automotive gems there, any more pics perchance?DVLA records show the silver Fiesta was last taxed mid-2003 and the Cavvy SRi last terrorised the tarmac in 1998. I think the O/S indicator on that Cav may be salvageable

Is it this place?

If so, I remember going there under the cover of darkness with some chaps from Thorney to get some parts off a Chevette back in the late 80's. I think my friend also had a rear axle from a 3.3 Ventora from there too. Those nearby brick pits used to be a real source of adventure in the pre-H&S days. Don't suppose you can get anywhere near them nowadays.

That's it, you are far more skilled in posting from Google than I! :D
